Title: Associate, Special Loans, Calgary Location: AB

This position reports to the Senior Manager, Special Loans

Main challenges

As part of the Special Loans group in Calgary, the successful candidate will provide specialized support for an assigned lending portfolio, including analyzing, structuring and managing credit facilities, with an emphasis on customers in the oil and gas industry.

In addition, the successful candidate will be responsible to assist in managing credit risk and identify revenue opportunities to maximize the overall profitability of the portfolio and to minimize credit losses.

Main challenges

  • Develop strategies to rectify files and formulate recommendations in order to reduce the risk of losses and increase the profitability of the Bank

  • Intervene in files involving large amounts or tight deadlines, and direct large-scale projects requiring experience and a high level of expertise in risk management

  • Carry out various complex analyses and evaluations relating to risk management, explain discrepancies and ensure that corrections are made

  • Direct the Bank's strategic decisions by providing analyses with a significant impact on the quality of decisions made by Senior Management

Specifically, you will:

  • Support the risk management of accounts, including the development of financing solutions to minimize risk

  • Prepare credit applications, including quantitative and qualitative analysis, identifying key risks and making recommendations

  • Assist in review and execution of legal documentation

  • Contribute to internal portfolio administration, including the monitoring of client covenants, compliance and due diligence

  • Keep up to date with current market/industry conditions and assist with internal and external presentations as requested

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and five years' relevant experience OR Master's degree in a related field and three years' relevant experience OR University certificate/undergraduate

  • A professional designation (CFA, CA or CMA) would be considered an asset

  • Previous experience in risk management and credit risk

  • Previous experience in commercial banking, oil and energy a strong asset

  • Strong financial modeling, analytical and technical skills

  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, prioritize work and multi-task

  • Co-operative attitude, ability to work effectively in a team environment

  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills

  • English both spoken and written, French is considered an asset
