Dow Chemical Process Automation Engineer in Alberta, Canada
The Dow Chemical Company has exciting opportunities for Process Automation Engineer positions to be located in Fort Saskatchewan. The Fort Saskatchewan site located near Edmonton, Alberta, is a large petrochemical complex. At Dow, the Process Automation Engineer will be involved in all three phases of projects; 1) front end loading (i.e. early project planning, FEL / FEED), 2) detailed design and construction, and 3) commissioning and startup. The Process Automation Engineer acts as a technical resource and process automation lead for small through large capital and improvement projects. These projects include implementing Dow's most effective technology, incremental process technology improvements and solutions new to Dow's businesses. This person will lead the effort to develop and implement the appropriate process control and process automation strategies and solutions for the chemical process / utility equipment involved. Good organizational skills and ability to simultaneously lead several smaller projects or to lead a team of process automation engineers on a large global capital project is required. This job requires excellent interpersonal and problem solving skills coupled with a strong technical background. Demonstrated ability to communicate and effectively sell ideas to all job levels is required.

Lead process control team(s) responsible for implementation of process control solutions to capture improvement opportunities.
Set aggressive project improvement goals, and plan, track and drive the implementation team to achieve those goals
Develop process control strategies for process technologies
Program control applications for various distributed control systems
Write simulation applications in order to verify functionality of the control program and for training plant operators
Participate in project commissioning and startup activities, including tuning of control loops
Provide training of chemical facility/Utility operations personal.
Deliver value to Dow businesses through effective use of asset utilization and project work processes.
Lead process control improvement investigation team(s) per Dow's work process methodology
Required Qualifications: *
A Bachelor's of Science Degree in Engineering is required.
3 years of experience in the Chemical or Petrochemical industry is required (5 years preferred).
Broad knowledge and skills in all aspects of Process Control Engineering is required.
Experience and In-depth knowledge of applying distributed control systems.
The candidate must have demonstrated leadership, planning, technical, organizational skills, communication skills and have the ability to work within a diverse team environment
Must be registered or eligible for registration with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geologist of Alberta (APEGA)
Must be legally authorized to work in Canada without company support or sponsorship.
* Preferred Qualifications: *
Degree discipline in Chemical, Automation, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering is preferred.
3 years in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
Strong technical background with plant troubleshooting skills is preferred.
Experience on Mod 5, ABB XA800, DeltaV and/or Triconex is preferred
Experience on industrial state based control and advanced control is preferred
Experience on Aspen InfoPlus.21 and SQL Plus is preferred
Knowledge of safety instrumented systems (SIS)
