Telus IT Project Manager - Release Planning in BC, Canada

Position Overview:

The National Release Management team within Business Transformation and Operations is looking for an experienced Project Manager to join the team as an IT Project Manager II. The successful candidate will manage Release Planning and/or Execution activities with 30-40 projects targeting Major and Minor Releases and will have the ability to interpret corporate strategies and translate them into practical Release plans. The ideal candidate will also be able to work with internal Technology teams, Business units and external vendors to successfully plan and implement projects.

Responsibilities:

Accomplish the following duties independently:

  • Ensure deliverables adhere to quality standards

  • Managing and tracking Release constraints while maintaining quality

  • Proactively manage and communicate all aspects of the Release planning and implementation over the entire Release life cycle

  • Manage release risks, issues and escalations as they arise

  • Work with Vendors and 3rd Party development teams for integrated solution delivery

  • Work effectively and tactfully with cross-functional teams

  • Contribute to continuous process improvement initiatives

  • Facilitate and negotiate with 30 project teams as they target a designated Release

  • Track and measure Release results

  • Conduct Release retrospectives and drive learning as a result of the findings

  • Ability to resolve conflicting priorities in the delivery of a program; resolve resource issues; and manage project scope to meet expectations

  • Adhere to TELUS Business standards, methodology and Governance

  • Capable of creating detailed plans to deliver projects into a Release

  • Strong negotiation skills to manage Business expectations and project deliverables

  • Capable of forming required teams to elicit various technical solutions to assess solution options to support the business needs

  • Strong presentation skills; ability to develop presentation materials suitable for audiences at various levels and in various settings

  • Coaches and directs project team members, effectively confronting and resolving conflicts

  • Capable of managing all stakeholder's objectives and expectations by ensuring to meet Release goals and objectives

  • Capable of quantifying risks and opportunities on projects and developing a cost/benefit analysis for risk mitigation and to take advantage of opportunities

  • Ability to work with various key stakeholders for projects and apply engagement methods for their participation, ability to gain consensus and resolution on Release direction and issues across various Business Units and with stakeholder teams

  • Capable of effectively facilitating project teams - large or small, fosters stability during change by ensuring open and ongoing communication

Required Professional Designation/Certification:

  • University and/or technical school degree or diploma or equivalent education and experience

  • PMP Certification will be strongly desired

  • Project Management/PMP courses will be considered an asset

  • Technology training/certifications will be considered an asset

Required Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years for IT Project Management experience

  • 5 years of work experience in a telecommunications or technology delivery setting, demonstrating IT project management and delivery capabilities

  • Business process knowledge and acumen

  • Applying project management methodologies and tools to plan and execute Releases of varying scale and complexity

  • Project Management methodologies, principles and practices

  • Software development methodologies and practices (SDLC & Agile)
