Our team supports a wide range of strategic initiatives related to “inorganic growth” of particular business units or the corporation as a whole, by way of acquisition, divestiture, joint venture and other structures. The team leads the review, analysis and approval process of corporate transactions, supports BU strategy efforts and provides ongoing thought partnership support to key executives.
As a key member of the Corporate Development team, you will report to the Director of Corporate Development. As a Senior Corporate Development Manager, you will take on many exciting roles…
Identify, evaluate, negotiate, perform due diligence, execute, implement and monitor activities relating to inorganic growth opportunities, including mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures and other structures for TELUS
Undertake analyses to identify environmental changes which may preclude the attainment of the strategic objectives of new business opportunities
- Clearly and concisely present findings and analysis to Directors VPs, SVPs and ELT members
Strong Written & Verbal Communicator:
- Develop and maintain strong relations with:
o TELUS customer facing and enabling business units
o Transaction support teams (strategic financial analysis, taxation, corporate accounting, legal services and HR integration)
o Executives from target companies during the initial evaluation and due diligence phases of a transaction
- Demonstrate integrity by consistently leveraging a Commitment Based Management approach with key stakeholders
Lead a virtual cross-functional team in due diligence activities related to the acquisition
Coach, motivate and mentor junior staff including FMDP rotational staff
Expert in your field:
Lead the development of business cases, sophisticated financial projections, analysis and valuation of potential significant business opportunities including acquisitions and divestitures
Work closely with the Post-Merger Integration team to determine key risks post close that should be addressed during the due diligence phase of a transaction
Lead the coordination of impact to TELUS financials, including budget overlays by interacting closely with strategic financial analysis, corporate accounting and taxation
Lead due diligence management activities both internally, as well as with target companies
Participate in negotiations and structuring of legal agreements and at an advanced stage lead these elements
Take ownership of more complex files and play a leading role with BU involvement on projects with higher impact to TELUS
Lead medium projects (typically in the range of $5M-$50M) or multiple smaller more complex projects with minimal Director guidelines while playing a big role in the negotiation process
Solid understanding of the Telecommunications and IT Sector, including: Market dynamics, key drivers and significant trends going forward
Strong Financial Acumen with an excellent understanding of basic financial concepts
Strong knowledge of and experience with financial statements (ratio analysis, performance return measures)
Strong understanding of financial valuation methodologies (Discounted Cash Flow, precedent transaction, comparable company analysis, LBO analysis)
Superior financial modelling including ability to develop driver based FCF models including NPV and ROI analysis
Ability to work under pressure and make modifications in a dynamic environment
Strategy/Operations consulting experience an asset
Ability to identify and define business questions and issues and develop strategic and analytical frameworks to conduct analysis
Understanding of technology, processes and systems within the telecommunications industry is preferred
Required Skills & Abilities:
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision/oversight and demonstrate an ability to manage own work streams as well as work within an extended team
Excellent problem solving and decision making skills with the ability to basis decision making on sound financial and market assessment
Consistently demonstrates a variety of strategies (e.g. Facts & data, third party references, advance positioning) to effectively influence others, often in complex circumstances, including those more senior, over whom they have no direct authority
An ability to embrace continuous learning and proactively seek opportunities for growth
An ability to work well in a virtual team environment and have the ability to influence Business Unit decision making
Stellar work ethic and results-oriented
Ability to interact effectively with all levels including senior management
Expert knowledge of CapitalIQ an asset
Required Professional Designation/Certification:
Undergraduate degree in relevant field, such as Commerce, Finance, Business Administration or Engineering
Financial industry designation (e.g. CFA or CPA/CA); completed or in final stages of completion
MBA considered an asset
