Location: Burnaby, British Columbia

Ballard has an immediate opening for a Control Engineer to join the Systems Engineering team. The successful candidate will work well independently and with the existing engineering team members to contribute to the development of Ballard’s fuel cell system products.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and implementation of control logic

  • Design and implementation of CAN and Ethernet communication

  • Commissioning and troubleshooting of control logic, networks, and HMIs

  • Verification and validation of software through inspection, simulation and testing

  • Assist in the elicitation, clarification and documentation of control system requirements

  • Assist in the preparation of technical documents, including component/system design requirements, design specifications, test procedures and test reports

  • Configuration of data logging to a Wonderware InSQL database

Requirements:

  • Must have a technical diploma or engineering degree from an Electrical, Electronics or Computer Science program

  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in a control engineering field

  • Proven ability to design state logic, digital and analog control systems, at both the regulatory and supervisory control level

  • Demonstrated commitment to delivering high quality software

  • Experience commissioning, tuning, and troubleshooting control systems

  • Ability to read Process & Instrumentation Diagrams

  • Experience with instrumentation including pressure, temperature and flow measurement devices

  • Knowledge of fuel cell system controls an asset

  • Experience with CoDeSys and Rockwell RSLogix 5000 software an asset

  • Experience in process operations and analysis an asset

  • Experience with power device interfaces an asset (motor drives, inverters, power supplies, contactors, etc.)

  • Experience in a formal software development environment an asset

  • Experience with dynamic simulation of control and process systems using Simulink an asset

  • Experience with LabVIEW software an asset
