Amec Foster Wheeler Junior to Intermediate Hazardous Materials Specialist in Burnaby, British Columbia

Amec Foster Wheeler Environment & Infrastructure’s Burnaby BC office currently has an opportunity available for a Junior to Intermediate Hazardous Materials Specialist. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to provide Hazardous Materials support in an exciting, fast paced consulting environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct hazardous materials assessment for various client sectors including: asbestos, lead, PCBs, mercury components, ozone-depleting substances, suspect visible microbial growth and other process contaminants

  • Prepare / review hazardous materials management exposure control plans / programs

  • Prepare / review hazardous materials abatement / remediation specifications

  • Conduct on-site inspection and monitoring services during hazardous materials abatement / remediation projects

  • Prepare accurate, succinct written reports, programs and proposals

  • Participate in safety meetings and conduct site safety inspections

  • Maintain air sampling pumps, monitors and other associated equipment required for hazardous materials projects

  • Monitor work load utilization

  • Ensure project milestones and client expectations are being met

  • Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety

  • Evidence of hazardous materials training (e.g. AHERA Building Inspector Course, Alberta Asbestos Worker Course, Hazardous Materials Technician Course, Lead Inspector and Risk Assessor Course, Mould Assessment and Remediation Course, etc.)

  • Preferably two to five years’ experience conducting hazardous materials work

  • Experience with industrial and hydroelectric power facilities an asset

  • Access to a vehicle and willing to travel for out of town work is essential

  • Strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Enthusiastic and positive attitude and commitment to technical excellence

  • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills

  • Willingness to maintain and upgrade technical skills through seminars, training sessions and continuing education
