Parsons Corporation Principal Transportation Engineer in Burnaby, Canada


  • By applying sound engineering techniques and appropriate analyses, the successful candidate will undertake simple as well as complex transportation planning and traffic engineering assignments for roadways, highways, and transit facilities.

  • As part of a team, or independently, leads and / or conducts analysis and generates engineering products that meet customer quality requirements. Typical products may include reports, technical memoranda, letters, and other supporting documents such as exhibits, maps, and drawings. Must possess ability to clearly present information to internal groups, clients, and industry peers.

  • Other activities may include defining the problem, establishing the work scope, preparing the budget and schedule, planning the work, providing technical input and direction, and reporting the work status. Uses a variety of standard engineering methods and techniques to solve problems. Assists more senior engineers in carrying out technical tasks requiring accuracy in calculations, completeness of data, and adherence to prescribed analysis, design, or computation methods.

  • Provides support for other engineering activities as required. May supervise one or more subordinates and provide input regarding performance.

  • May be assigned to a project or organizational team, or as a lead engineer for a specific discipline on a small to intermediate-size project.

  • Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.


  • Recognized Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent is required.

  • 15 years of relevant experience with transportation planning and traffic engineering for roadways and highways

  • P.Eng registration, or eligibility is required.

  • Experience on BC MOT or other municipality projects would be preferred

  • Experience on Design-Build projects would be an asset

  • Strong understanding of traffic engineering fundamentals, travel demand forecasting, and traffic safety analysis required.

  • Strong understanding of roadway and highway design including horizontal and vertical geometry, traffic management plans and detours, signing and pavement marking plans is required.

  • Knowledge of Highway Capacity Manual and TAC Geometric Design Guidelines is required.

  • Local provincial transportation experience strongly preferred.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products is required.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.

  • Preference will be given to candidates with the ability to multi-task, that are self-motivated, and looking to be challenged.
