Parsons Corporation Project Manager - Transportation in Burnaby, Canada

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Provides senior level leadership in the management of Parsons projects and the study, planning, functional, and preliminary design of infrastructure such as streets, highways, pathways, cycling facilities, railways, rapid transit facilities, structures and other systems related to transportation services. Projects may be municipal, provincial, federal, or private in nature, or delivered through alternative means. The candidate will be in a position to either manage Parsons projects and/or lead the planning & design portions of Parsons projects as a subject matter expert in civil engineering, or to act as the Project Manager for clients, managing project teams.

Role:

  • Plans, organizes and co-ordinates work on a number of projects in two or more related fields of engineering;

  • Make recommendations on organizational requirements;

  • Assesses work against standards, objectives and specifications;

  • Establishes effective working relations with colleagues, associates, and officials in government and other associations;

  • Assigns projects and tasks to other engineers and supporting staff;

  • Assesses the performance of subordinates and makes recommendations on selection, and promotion of engineering staff;

  • Seeks new projects and is involved in proactive business development;

  • Writes proposals, prepares budgets and seeks approval to commit large dollar values;

  • Makes presentation to client and could provide expert witness;

  • Has medium range authority to commit dollars and resources;

  • Overall manager on a number of projects and is accountable;

  • Extremely high degree of accuracy and attention to detail, checks and stamps drawings;

  • Quality control of work and overall responsibility of work;

  • Main client contact, solves client issues and concerns, AR collection, invoicing approval and fee structure;

  • High complexity in term of project management

  • Contribute to the overall wellness of the company as a whole

The successful candidate will possess the following combination of education and skills:

  • A minimum of 12 years’ experience in highway planning / design

  • 4-year degree in Engineering or related technical/business

  • Experience with provincial and municipal authorities’ highway and transit design projects including BC MOT or local municipalities.

  • The ability to lead a team of engineers engaged in major transportation projects

  • The ability to prepare proposals and written expressions of interest

  • Proven success in managing large transportation engineering projects

  • Proven ability to supervise, train and mentor senior engineers & more junior staff

  • Excellent written and communication skills and presentation skills

  • Professional registration, or eligibility for registration, preferred.
