The Athletics & Recreation department is an innovative student and staff-centered department designed to enhance the SAIT experience through sports, activities, courses and extracurricular events. The SAIT Trojans are represented in five major sports, competing with great success at the collegiate level. SAIT Recreation has a wide range of programs and facilities for staff, students and the public with the goal of supporting active and healthy lifestyles.

The Athletics Manger plays a key role in the Athletics and Recreation Department by assisting the Athletics & Recreation Director in the successful operations of Campus Athletics at SAIT Polytechnic. The Athletics Manager is responsible for the day-to-day leadership of the Trojans Intercollegiate teams, marketing and game events, corporate development, and athlete services as well as sport clubs.

Note: This is a temporary, benefits eligible position with an end date of June 30, 2018.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the Trojans intercollegiate teams

  • Leads the Trojans Corporate Development, Marketing & Communications, as well as Game-day & Events staff

  • Represent SAIT at ACAC, CCAA and other sport organization meetings

  • Be an active member of the Athletics and Recreation Management team

  • Oversee the compliance of student athlete eligibility

  • Coordinate financial awards (i.e. scholarship) program

  • Liaise with Trojans alumni & fund raising groups

  • Manage the club sports program and assist with the management of the varsity sports program

  • Recruit, and evaluate full and part-time staff and coaches

  • Assist the Athletics & Recreation Director in the development of the department’s budget

  • Coordinate the Trojans athletic banquet

  • Responsible for effective cost/expense management

  • Provide leadership and management of special projects as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, or Sports Management Administration combined with at least 5 years of experience working in a post-secondary athletic environment in Canada or the United States. A Master’s degree is preferred

  • NCCP Coaching Certification Level II or related coaching experience would be considered an asset

  • Strong knowledge of ACAC, CCAA, CIS policies, and NCAA sport systems. Recognizes challenges facing post-secondary sports in Canada, especially SAIT Polytechnic

  • Possess strong communication skills, ability to problem solve and manage multiple priorities

  • Ability to lead and organize coaches meetings as well as lead presentations to large and small groups

  • Ability to use and understand basic computer technologies

  • Fluent in Microsoft office applications
