The School of Construction is one of the largest schools at SAIT, with approximately 200 faculty and support staff providing training to more than 7,500 full-time and part-time students each year. To meet the diverse needs of the modern construction sector, the School of Construction offers approximately 20 full-time programs that are regularly reviewed and updated by expert advisory committees, ensuring curriculum is always relevant.

We are currently recruiting a contract PC Support Specialist to provide network and client technical support for faculty, staff, and students requiring the use of PC’s, Laptops, IP phones, peripherals, audio/visual and any computer related equipment. Reporting to the Network Support Specialist, you will be the first point of contact for technical support in the department. You will be responsible for providing expertise, coordination, administration and technical supports to ensure that all hardware, software and equipment are current and functioning at all times to maximize student learning, teaching effectiveness and business function.

Note: This is a temporary contract position with end date of June 30, 2017.

Responsibilities:

  • Respond and take action to all technical inquiries

  • Install software and coordinate repairs to hardware and peripheral equipment

  • Upgrade and troubleshoot software and hardware

  • Create, administer and maintain computer images

  • Create SCCM packages for School of Construction software applications.

  • Create and deploy computer images using SCCM

  • Set up and assist with SAIT applications

  • Proactively complete updates and service packs to all machines

  • Manage user accounts and print queues

  • Perform regular clean-up of computer accounts in Active Directory

  • Maintain printer and plotter supplies and ensure devices are operational at all times

  • Administer and maintain inventory of all technical equipment, software and supplies

  • Assist in the research, planning, training and application of new technology and services

  • Create and maintain documentation for the support and use of all computer related technology

  • Train support staff and cross train peers and contractors

  • Evaluate and recommend new technology

  • Assist Network Support Specialist with any other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Minimum post-secondary education diploma or degree in computer studies

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant technical support experience

  • A combination of education and experience may be considered

  • A positive attitude with superior customer service and communication skills

  • Advanced computer skills and knowledge of software application support and computer hardware

  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating systems (minimum Windows 7) client versions

  • Intermediate knowledge and working experience with SCCM, including the creation and deployment of software packages and computer images through task sequences

  • Intermediate knowledge of enterprise antivirus solutions

  • Intermediate knowledge of local area networks (LAN's)

  • Basic knowledge of and ability to use and set up audio/visual equipment

  • Knowledge and working experience of Windows scripting, database management and Faronics Deep Freeze is an asset

  • Experience with CADD based software is an asset

  • Excellent problem solving and analytics with the ability to work with minimal supervision

  • Ability to lift up to 30lbs and work in tight spaces (ie. under desks)

  • Ability to work flexible hours and some shift work.
