Cenovus is looking for first year Power Engineering students who are seeking an opportunity to gain valuable experience in a plant environment. This four month position is a fly-in/fly-out opportunity and will be located at either our Foster Creek or Christina Lake site.

This is a 4 month term position beginning in May 2017.

These positions are camp based, supporting our operations at Foster Creek and Christina Lake and working a shift of 7 days on 7 days off. Foster Creek and Christina Lake sites have full service camp facilities. Depending on your place of residence and your shift rotation, bus and/or air transportation to/from site is offered from designated departure points in select locations. Foster Creek and Christina Lake are serviced by flight Hubs in Calgary and Edmonton as well as bus transportation to the sites from La Corey, Lac La Biche, Bonnyville, and Cold Lake, AB. Modes of transportation and/or schedules may change from time to time in accordance with changing operating needs and transportation availability.

  • Acquiring steam time toward your Power Engineering Certificate

  • Following the utility/process plant operators and becoming familiar with the daily tasks of the unit operators job requirements

  • Perform water tests with a plant operator

  • Troubleshoot process upsets/problems with the unit operator

  • Trace piping drawings, read through documentation pertaining to process equipment

  • Legally entitled to work in Canada for the duration of your work term

  • Enrolled in first year of a Power Engineering program, returning to the program following the work term

  • A minimum cumulative and major GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale

  • Available to begin work in May 2017 for a 4 month work term

  • Must be willing to follow a 7&7 fly-in/fly-out schedule at either our Foster Creek or Christina Lake locations

  • This is a safety sensitive position and will be subject to the relevant requirements of the Cenovus Drug and Alcohol policy which includes pre-assignment testing

  • Previous experience is considered an asset

  • Strong verbal and written communications skills

  • Critical thinker and ability to work independently with limited supervision in a fast-paced, high-performing, team environment

  • Flexible to changing work demands and ability to prioritize

  • Innovative, with a strong desire to learn and the ability to encourage new ways of looking at problems, processes or solutions
