Cenovus Energy Senior Specialist, Internal Audit in Calgary, Alberta

The Director, Enterprise Assurance is seeking an experienced Auditor with strong internal auditing skills to fill a Senior Specialist, Internal Audit role. This is responsible for directing a team of professionals, participating in the development and execution of the Enterprise Assurance Plan. Enterprise Assurance comprises management assurance over financial reporting (SOX) and operations as well as Internal Audit.

We are looking to fill 2 fulltime positions located in Calgary, AB.

  • Develop and execute audits in accordance with the Enterprise Assurance Plan along with resource utilization, work plan development and management

  • Participate as an active and high performing member of the Enterprise Assurance team helping to ensure the team meets its objectives

  • Conduct assurance and advisory engagements as per the Audit Plan, providing guidance to other audit team members

  • Develop audit and advisory engagement programs/procedures as needed

  • Review audit observations, risks and controls with management

  • Validate and report assurance observations to management with practical recommendations

  • Provide input and assistance to Executive Team and Audit Committee reporting

  • Direct a team of professionals comprised of employees and co-sourced service provider staff

  • Work closely with other leads to support execution of work plans including leveraging the use of technology as needed, with a specific emphasis on data mining and the use of analytics

  • Keep abreast of best practices in internal auditing

  • Assist with various special projects, as needed

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada

  • An Accounting designation is required and other relevant auditing designations considered an asset

  • Minimum of 15 years auditing experience preferred

  • 3 to 5 years oil and gas industry experience required

  • Excellent audit process skills in both internal and external audit environments required, as well as an understanding of risk management principles

  • Experience with TeamMate product for managing audit issues, audit schedule and electronic working papers in an asset

  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to present information clearly and consistently, with effective listening and excellent writing skills

  • Demonstrated teamwork and leadership in a deadline-oriented environment

  • Self-motivated and able to work independently

  • Demonstrated ability to work on special projects efficiently and effectively to deliver results on time, on budget, and as requested

  • Excellent analytical skills – to identify and cover the highest risks with efficient and practical solutions

  • Ability to extract data and work with systems and software applications

  • Experience with JD Edwards would be considered an asset
