Job Introduction

As Purchasing Clerk, you will assist the purchasing department by assisting with special projects and performing clerical duties. You will be tasked with management of the shop floor tool crib, along with any industrial vending equipment present in the facility. Inventory will be managed by governing a robust min/max system and performing cycle counts as necessary while providing excellent customer service to the Maple team, providing quotes and ensuring the required products are readily available when needed to keep production running smoothly. You will play an important role in controlling costs by selecting products and services that are of the greatest quality for the most competitive prices by leveraging your knowledge and exposure to an array of industrial products.

Major Responsibilities
  • Perform RFQ’s and source products for customers by comparing factors such as quality and cost.

  • Provide cost savings and product substitutions to customers as needed.

  • Support purchasing buyers on assigned projects where necessary.

  • Provide exceptional internal customer service by following up on orders, quotes and complaints.

  • Continuously develop product knowledge via research and by cultivating supplier relationships.

  • Administer all orders and purchases via AutoCrib software interface.

  • Receive and distribute all MRO supplies and deliver packages or goods to individual parties as necessary.

  • Process administrative purchasing requirements such as PO’s and maintain data in enterprise system.

  • Provide MRO and purchasing reports as required by Purchasing Leadership.

  • Organize and maintain the tool crib and shop floor vending machines by restocking, cleaning and performing cycle counts as per schedule.

  • Manage shop floor vending equipment and maintain effective relationships with affiliated suppliers.

  • Work flexible and occasionally extended hours in order to support customer needs.

  • Perform other duties as required.

Knowledge and Education
  • It is an asset for the candidate to be working toward, or already possess, a post-secondary certificate or degree in a purchasing-related area of study.

  • Must possess a working knowledge of both industrial and safety products.

  • Previous experience with AutoCrib considered a valuable asset for applicants.

  • Knowledge and previous training in WHMIS and/or handling dangerous goods.

Work Experience
  • A minimum of 1-2 years of previous experience in a customer service role is required.

  • Experience working in a purchasing-related role within manufacturing is mandatory.

Work Environment
  • Normal amount of sitting or standing, average mobility to move around an office environment, able to conduct normal amount of work at a computer, may require local travel.

  • Occasionally exposed to noise and temperature change

  • Moderate to heavy lifting of packages, parcels, products and boxes weighing up to approx. 40 lbs. with a varying degree of frequency.

  • Must have a valid passport & driver’s license as travel is required on occasion.

  • Wears all PPE as required.
