Position Summary:

BDO is currently seeking a Senior Manager to lead Human Resources for our Western Canada offices. This role is responsible for the strategic and effective management of the HR function that supports multiple offices in Alberta, British Columbia and Saskatchewan. The Senior Manager is a key influencer and trusted partner for senior leaders, providing tactical advice and problem solving services on business strategy and decision-making. The Senior Manager Human Resources will be accountable for strategic planning and execution of all Western Canada HR initiatives, including recruitment, annual performance, total compensation, change management, workforce planning, employee engagement and retention, integration for mergers and acquisitions, succession planning, Leadership development and employee relations. The successful candidate will also play an integral role in the development of firm-wide HR policies and initiatives. This role requires someone who is able to navigate a fast paced environment, has demonstrated the ability to build relationships and has strong business acumen. The location is flexible; candidates can live in Alberta or BC.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

  • Provide ongoing strategic advice, and coaching, to support leaders in creating a high performance climate and realize their business objectives;

  • Manage the HR team to ensure there are clear performance expectations, and are motivated and engaged to partner with the business to provide exceptional client service.

  • Responsible for delivery and accountability of HR services for all Western Canada offices

  • Maintains knowledge of legislative, professional and industry activities and provides input and makes recommendations to senior leaders.

  • Lead all HR activities related to mergers and acquisitions, including the due diligence process, onboarding, change management and integration

  • Strategize with the firm’s leaders to attract, retain, and engage staff

  • Manage succession planning and all related activities, including Leadership development, mobility, resource planning

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with business leaders, regional HR teams, and BDO’s Centre of Excellence (National Office)

  • Acts as a leader; demonstrates the companies values and behavioral expectations

Education and Key Professional Skills:

  • University degree in a related field

  • CHRL or CHRE

  • Bilingual in English and French would be an asset

  • Minimum 8 years progressive HR experience

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and engage an HR team

  • Strong strategic thinking/planning experience

  • Strong ability to engage and influence outcomes at most senior levels of the organization

  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (verbal, written and presentation)

  • Superior time management and ability to effectively manage conflicting priorities and interests

Please note that this position requires approximately 10-25% travel on an annual basis.
