Working under the guidance and direction of the Area Manager to deliver day-to-day duties of construction administration and implementation in the field of part of a team delivering the new 13 km Valley Line Project. The candidate will ensure that correct standards of quality, safety and ethics are followed across the job site.

Training will be provided on specific project tools and procedures.


Reports day-to-day to the Area Manager or Lead Construction Coordinator for an assigned area.

Reports functionally to the Project Construction Coordinator.

Candidate will be required to align with relevant working hours to meet construction requirements.

Job Roles/Responsibilities:

  • Analyze design drawings and specifications in order to provide traceable and coordinated interpretations of the design/drawings for construction, including their completeness and constructability.

  • Prepares material take offs, inspections and requisitions.

  • Prepare Job Hazard Analysis in coordination with the HSE team.

  • Attend site safety briefings.

  • Inspects installed construction work for quality compliance with drawings, specifications and codes, including inspection and test plans, and ensure correct utilization of testing equipment.

  • Assists Superintendents in phases of construction engineering and installation of materials and equipment, as assigned.

  • Track installed quantities and update relevant project tracking databases, coordinating input with the Superintendent by reviewing progress on site. Coordinate schedule and cost input with Project Controls.

  • Undertake short term (and other) construction planning (e.g. 3 week rolling schedule development using the approved 90-day schedule as the basis).

  • Monitor the expended cost versus budget performance during construction.

  • Contribute to the development of subcontract bid packages as required.

  • Prepares daily progress reports with photographic evidence and uploads to Aconex, ensuring any urgent issues are relayed to the Area Manager immediately at time of occurring. Keeps supervisor informed on progress of assigned tasks verbally.

  • Prepares change notices and amendments, as directed by the Area Manager.

  • Maintain and update the Shop Drawing Log, review Shop Drawings and submittals.

  • Research and recommend solutions to design document problems, including conflicts, interferences and errors/omissions, coordinating the implementation with Engineering and Construction Management.

  • Produces change notices; field sketches, and marks up red-line drawings to provide as‑built documentation and drawings.

  • Attend project co-ordination and owner/contractor/architect/engineer meetings as requested or required.

  • Use of Project system, methods and automation tools, including document management system to ensure correct project record keeping is maintained, including reporting, technical queries such as RFIs, NCRs.

  • Ensure the correct version of documents is used, and provide visibility of open document reviews to the Area Manager.

  • Coordinate submittals and procure all close-out documents including warranties and Operating and Maintenance Manuals.

  • Perform additional assignments and responsibilities as assumed or requested by supervision in accordance with project protocols.

Basic Qualifications:

Must have the legal right to work and remain in Canada without sponsorship.

  • Engineering degree or equivalent combinations of technical training plus 3 to 5 years of experience.

  • Working knowledge of construction equipment and techniques, drawings and specifications, building materials, and required standards applicable to discipline.

  • 5 years’ of experience in Concrete Construction.

  • Transportation and Rail experience would be considered an asset.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Ability to assume responsibility and to interface and communicate effectively with others. Effective oral and written communication skills and ability to represent the company and project team in a professional manner.

Preferred Qualifications / Training:

  • Light Rail / Civil infrastructure specific experience.

  • Basic capability in Primavera.

  • Basic capability of 3D modelling software.

  • Previous experience of Quantity Take Offs

  • Previous HSEQ training.

  • APEGA Registered (including EIT) would be considered an asset.
