Process Technician/Operator

The function of this job is to operate and troubleshoot the Air Separation Plant in a safe and efficient manner as described in various procedures, processes and regulatory requirements. Utilizing air separation and cryogenic process knowledge, the process technician works in a team environment where individuals are empowered to set priorities and complete different activities with minimal supervision. Successful candidates must be able to work 12 hour, rotating shifts.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Implementation of operational discipline, principles, procedures and practices to ensure the safe and efficient operation of plant processes and equipment.

  • Operation, monitoring and inspection of process equipment and conditions.

  • Interfacing with various electronic, pneumatic and PLC based control systems during start-up, analysis and continual operation of plant processes and equipment.

  • Use of troubleshooting skills to recognize and resolve process related deviations and problems.

  • Performing necessary repairs and assistance during plant turnarounds, equipment upgrades, refurbishments and preventative maintenance.

  • Use of process knowledge and skills towards productivity improvements and equipment reliability.

  • Professional communication between contractors, visitors, customers, colleagues and management.

Education, Technical and non-Technical:

  • Power Engineering Technology diploma (SAIT/NAIT), or an equivalent program.

  • 3-5 years of previous experience in a 24/7/365 process operations role.

  • Motivated, self-starter capable of effectively managing multiple tasks and priorities.

  • Ability to read and interpret various drawings such as: P&IDs and SWDs.

  • Must have good computer and technical skills in order to learn how to operate both manual and highly automated process equipment

  • Must have the ability to recognize, understand, analyze, and resolve technical problems.

  • Must be able to work overtime as required

  • Must have strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills

  • Must have a current and valid driver’s license

  • Must be able to meet the physical demands of the job:

o Ability to lift up to 25kg

o Climb stairs and ladders

o Work in tight and closed spaces

o Ability to wear all required personal protective equipment
