We are currently seeking a highly qualified General Machinist to set up and operate a variety of manual and CNC machines to produce precision parts at our Guelph facility.

Principle Accountabilities

  • Analyzes specifications, prints, sketches or work orders .

  • Check print(s) and routings to plan working procedure of required operations, layout and make necessary calculations.

  • Perform machine set-up, verify tooling of feeds and speeds for a wide variety of machining operations such as turning, boring, drilling, reaming, cutting, facing or tapping.

  • Use various measuring devices to check dimensions or finish as required. Maintain tolerances to plus or minus .0004, when necessary.

  • Adjust equipment travel, feed or speed during machine operation, observe machining operation, grind and adjust cutting tools to obtain efficient operation.

  • Performs work requiring knowledge of machine shop and tool room practices and techniques, properties, or various materials, principles of application and operation of various materials, principles of application and operation of various types of tools, instruments and machinery.

  • Inform Supervisor of unusual conditions of material, equipment operation or specifications.

  • Maintain machine tools (oil filters, grease) and other shop equipment

  • Comply with all company policies & procedures, health & safety policies and Occupational Health & Safety Regulations

Rotating shifts:

Hours are: Two weeks on day shift 7:00AM -3:30PM (Monday-Friday) then rotate to afternoon shift for two weeks 3:30PM-2:00AM (Monday -Thursday)

Position Requirements

Must be a certified General Machinist and hold a Certificate of Qualification

Must have 5+ years of related experience

Efficient in manual and CNC lathe and mills

Must be able to work within close tolerances

Prior working knowledge in the fundament of machine tools and measuring tools, principles of numerical control, understanding the basis for NC dimensioning, part program methods and be able to communicate effectively using CNC terminology

Must be able to read and interpret blueprints & drawings

Skilled using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, dial indicators and depth gauges

Must have exceptional mathematical/analytical skills to perform calculations

Preferences

Mentor other machinists to develop and increase skills across the team
