The Laboratory Sampler position at Cargill is very important. As the FSQR Lab Sampler, Night Shift you will be responsible for all samples collected and the results associated with them.

To accurately, aseptically and efficiently perform sampling of product or environmental samples according to standard operating procedures (SOPs) or analytical test procedures (ATPs) where appropriate, with little or no direct supervision. Fill out relevant paperwork, label sample bags accurately. Deliver sample and paperwork to third part (Marshfield Food Safety LLC) or internal Cargill FSQR lab in a timely manner. Assist other lab personnel to perform routine environmental, routine or special sampling.

Flexibility with schedule of shift may be required on short notice. Regular hours are the same as 2nd shift production, Monday to Friday. Must be prepared to work Saturday when necessity dictates. The hours are subject to change as dictated by operating conditions.

Principal Accountabilities:

80% Collect Accurate and Timely test samples: Daily sampling of combo trim, offal, Box Trim and Grind for microbial analysis and Pathogen testing according to standard operating procedures (SOPs). Collect Trim/Box Trim/Grind lot samples, according to company guidelines. Accurately fill out paperwork (COC, bag labels). Coordinate laboratory activities with laboratory co-workers. Perform Other duties of the laboratory as instructed. Random auditing will be conducted, to ensure complete and consistent adherence to sampling protocols and good aseptic practice.

10% House Keeping: Maintain cleanliness of area and tools used, by promptly and appropriately disposing of unused product and by sanitizing the work area (with appropriate sanitizer – (180 degree water OR 70% ethanol) immediately after use to avoid contamination

5% Delivering Samples: Deliver samples to the MFS Lab in a timely manner. Accurate documentation and usage of all Quality control booklets and forms is essential. Understands and follows all practices outlined in the Quality Assurance Manual, Standard Operating Procedures, Equipment Standard Operating Procedures, Protocols and Analytical Test Procedures.

5% Safety: Maintain safe practices and procedures on the floor / in the lab and with co-workers. Maintain proper job procedures, hazardous waste disposal procedures, use of lab, and Personal Protective Equipment



  • Possess knowledge of microbiological and chemical applications.

  • Knowledge of the aseptic sampling techniques.

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills: Can work and complete sampling using aseptic techniques within strict timelines.

  • Ability to learn and perform other laboratory tasks as required.

  • Leadership ability required providing direction to production employees and co-workers.

  • Written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to understand Micro Sampling from a fundamental level is essential to enable effective trouble shooting and problem solving.

  • Teamwork approach to look for advice from experienced personnel when making decisions, and at the same time being decisive when individual decisions need to be made in a timely manner

  • Must work in cold areas

  • Permanent alert and prudence when working in production areas, close to sharp tools and dangerous equipment

  • Must be legally entitled to work for Cargill in Canada

Preferred :

  • Diploma from scientific discipline. Bachelor’s degree in a science field

  • Previous laboratory experience

  • Computer Knowledge
