The 5620 SAM technical documentation team is looking for an Intermediate Technical Writer for our Ottawa, Ontario campus. We are looking for an individual who can create accurate, thorough, topic-based information in a fast-paced environment to support a variety of information deliverables. The 5620 SAM documentation team is creating traditional user guides, developer guides, and installation guides, in addition to new media formats like interactive JavaScript product tours and customer-facing instructional videos. You must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work effectively on your own and as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities / Functions:

The successful candidate will:

  • Plan, research, and write technical documentation

  • Work in an Agile development environment to support one or more scrum teams in a global R&D environment

  • Research network management features in a variety of ways to gather technical data for documentation creation

  • Revise documents to incorporate updates, new features, and editorial comments

  • Participate in the creation of interactive product tours (written in JavaScript)

  • Write scripts for use in video creation

  • Produce products that conform to company documentation and quality assurance standards

  • Implement structural changes to documentation, as required

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications: (Education, Technical Skills/Knowledge)

  • Bachelors Degree in English, technical writing, computer science, or related field

  • Minimum of three years experience in technical writing

  • Previous experience in researching and writing user documentation

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to work under pressure

  • Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with internal customers and peers

  • Ability to manage priorities and follow direction appropriately

  • Ability to easily flow with changing priorities, projects, and processes

  • Knowledge and understanding of the technical communication profession, information development process, and writing principles and standards

Desired Qualifications: (Education, Technical Skills/Knowledge)

  • Experience working in an Agile development environment is an asset

  • Experience in telecommunications documentation is an asset

  • Knowledge of topic-based authoring in an XML authoring tool is an asset

  • Experience using Jira is an asset

  • JavaScript knowledge is an asset

  • Experience in video creation or video editing is an asset
