Walmart Category Manager - Grocery in Mississauga, Ontario

Design, develop and execute strategies,for generally medium to low-medium complexity categories as defined by established sales, qualitative and quantitative metrics, in partnership with cross functional specialist team that achieve P&L; deliverables and sell the products customers want at unbeatable prices. Corporate Strategy

  • Responsible to deliver merchandise plays (playbook) to deliver on Merchandise Framework (strategy)

  • Execute SCP (Strategic Category Planning) plan in collaboration with relevant cross functional groups which aligns with Merchandise framework, financial targets and strategy

  • Accountable to ensure that research received is complete and of quality. Accountable to make fact based decisions using the data provided Category Management/ Strategy Development:

  • Responsible to review market research including category, competitor, customer and trend information

  • Responsible to communicate category strategies to leadership and cross-functional team (i.e. Supply Chain, Modular Planning)

  • Responsible to develop Category Strategies that align with the merchandise framework and Portfolio strategy/financials

  • Responsible to support the collection of category specific external market and competitor data including: sending data requests (Competitive Market Sheet) to Vendor/CA/3rd party as needed and creating category specific overview of market/consumer trends.

  • Validate accuracy, reliability of SCP templates (including competitive analysis, average market share, input/conversion of market/vendor data and store audit data sheets)

  • Approve market and customer opportunities analysis including market size and Wal-Mart share by price tier; review of market share of primary competitors by subcategory and category trends/ innovations, consumer insight

  • Responsible for conducting item level assortment analysis and creating a summary of assortment decisions re: coverage of needs analysis for priority sub-categories, vendor optimization, sku optimization, visiting stores to gain learnings for application on category strategy and price ladders for priority sub-categories

  • Responsible for creating SCP Summary including: summary of opportunities, Category Action Plans, Category strategy execution, financial overview and visiting stores to gain learnings for application on category strategy P&L; Management /Category Financials

  • Accountable for sales, market share growth, gross profit and inventory targets /budget

  • Responsible to provide a category strategy that will inform Merchandise Planning to prepare forecasts/ targets for sales, profit and inventory

  • Responsible to work with Merchandise Planning & DM to forecast for sales, gross profit and inventory including coop collection, markdown, receipts, sales mix and ad coop collection

  • Responsible to work with Merchandise Planning & DM to set buy plans and category/subcategory targets for sales, gross profit and inventory

  • Responsible to review annual, monthly, weekly and daily category, subcategory projections/ actuals; make adjustments as needed. Marketing Planning & Execution

  • Complete promotional planning (item selection templates within context of corporate and portfolio criteria, collection of samples/photos from vendors, proofing and preparing change sheets)

  • Review post-mortem financial analysis and identify correction of error as provided by Merchandise Financial Planning

  • Passion for product and people. Ability to partner with merchandise and cross functional teams

  • Proven ability to deliver results including demonstrated P&L; management skills

  • 3-5 years experience in buying/ merchandise management experience

  • Retail experience with working knowledge of Supply Chain (including replenishment), Marketing, Store Operations, Modular Planning, Finance

  • Strong customer orientation (e.g. consumer insights)

  • Results driven, strategic thinking and ability to influence others

  • Strong analytical, business and financial acumen. Proven negotiation and planning skills

  • Timely decision making/action oriented

  • Vendor management skills

  • Superior written and verbal communication skills

  • Post secondary degree or equivalent experience
