POSITION SUMMARY The purpose or objective of the role. A Senior Production Designer is responsible for building accurate pre-press ready packaging artwork in an efficient and timely manner and to ensure all artwork adheres to client/brand standards and is delivered on time, on budget and to the highest quality standards. A Senior Production Designer must keep up-to-date with Canadian and USA government package labelling regulations and have a thorough knowledge of the various printing processes (ie: flexo, litho, gravure, dry offset, letterpress, etc.). Retouch images at an advanced level to customer/designer expectations. ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES The key responsibilities, accountabilities, and objectives of the position. Include all working relationships. 35% creating production art files 35% Advanced retouching of images 10% internally circulating artwork and consulting directly with Designers, Account Manager and Creative Director 10% revising production files and maintaining paper and digital files 10% releasing final art files, checking pre-press proofs, checking supplied dielines Essential Duties/Responsibilities
Build accurate prepress ready packaging artwork in an efficient and timely manner.
Utilize thorough knowledge of all print processes (flexo, litho, gravure, dry offset, letterpress, etc.) and how specific print process affects execution of final artwork
Advanced retouching of high resolution images in Photoshop, as required for projects in the studio
Convert CMYK images to spot colour DCS files as required
Create digital 3D images of packages as required
Colour management of digital hi-res images with emphasis on how they will translate across various print processes
Review random/pre-press proofs of hi-res images/packaging artwork
Offer technical solutions to colour and composition issues as they arise
Manage and organize paper production file and electronic files within the company server
Adhere to Government Packaging Regulations, for both Canada and USA, for both food and non-food labelling
Follow client brand style guides and maintain consistent files
Ability to find creative solutions for complex layouts while adhering to client style guides.
Make logical and creative decisions when working on complex layouts
Take direction from the Production Manager, Account Manger and Creative Director and keep management team abreast of project status
Review artwork being released with Creative Director or Associate Creative Director and Account Manager Additional requirements as needed:
Check received dielines to ensure they are usable for production. Report any problems and suggested solutions to appropriate account personnel.
Liason with in-house personnel regarding production issues.
Liason with pre-press companies, printing companies and clients regarding production issues.
Releasing of final files to pre-press company or printer. Check and correct in order to ensure files being sent out are clean and technically correct.
Check department artwork for print production, brand standards and legal requirements when Production Manger is unable to do so.
Locate and print any reference artwork of previous files for required projects to ensure consistency across skus.
