Telus Automation and Deployment Specialist - THFS in ON, Canada

Position Overview:

As part of the Research and Development team at TELUS Health Physician Services, the Technology Specialist is responsible for deployment, maintenance, and configuration of TELUS Health EMR product using automation tool and various scripting and programming languages. The automation tool (Symantec Altiris) is used to manage and maintain TELUS Health EMR product on a large number of remote servers used by Physicians across Canada.

Problem solving and thinking outside the box with respect to technical challenges are key to the success of this role. As part of TELUS WorkStyle program, the Technology Specialist position has the flexibility to work remotely (from Home). Most work will be performed during off clinic hours or during scheduled maintenance windows (night and weekends).

Responsibilities:

  • Deploying patches, updates, and add-ons remotely using automated scripts (during off hours)

  • Troubleshooting and mitigation of server issues

  • Development, validation, and maintenance of tools and automation tasks

  • Developing frameworks for future automation tasks defined by Product Management

  • Administration of the Altiris automation tool

  • Monitoring and reporting on various aspects of the EMR software and server health

  • Basic database administration tasks

  • Assist in validation of new product releases for pilot activities

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Understanding of agile software development methodology

  • Solid understanding of development tools and practices

  • Basic understanding and troubleshooting of networking and Windows Server issues

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to plan, prioritize and work with minimal supervision

Required Professional Designation/Certification:

  • College or University education in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Health Informatics or related field

Required Experience:

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in a deployment or configuration or development role

  • Experience and knowledge in the following areas is required:

o Programming (Java or .NET) or Scripting (Python, VB script, shell script, batch script)

o Basic SQL (SQLPLUS)

o Windows Server

o MS SQL Server & Oracle DB Administration

o Tomcat

o Networking

o Active Directory

o A solid understanding of troubleshooting methodologies, and familiarity with ITIL best practices

o Fluent in English
