BMO is seeking qualified Architects who are genuinely interested in leading the bank moving along the journey of DevOps.

BMO is seeking a DevOps Architect who will drive the FAST IT transformation for the software development community. The DevOps Architect will be setting the standards for the toolchain and provide the guidance and best practices, as well as consultation to the Agile development projects.

DevOps tools are mostly based on Open Source technologies, e.g., JIRA and Bamboo, and this role is required to interact with the Open Source community, and select and certify the appropriate component for use in the Bank.

MANDATE:

The DevOps Architect contributes to defining and validating the strategic enterprise architecture for the organization. They will participate in the development of principles, standards and guidelines regarding the proper use and deployment of technology within the Enterprise. In addition, the Architect will assist in technological governance activities by assessing the appropriate evolution of architect in both a business and a technological context.

In order to be successful in this role, you must have:

  • Previous hands-on coding experience (i.e. 3-4 years of experience/background overall in development)

  • A solid understanding of the skills and concepts within Architecture

  • Be self-motivated, open and enthusiastic about learning new technologies and practices

  • The ability to create and maintain long-term relationships with different LOBs

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Helps to determine the definition and development of architecture, in order to enable and advise the DevOps journey. This includes the definition of the Target State Architecture and Architecture Roadmap

  • Provides technical guidance and counsel to Development, Testing, Deployment and Operation teams, ensuring that their processes and deliverables align with the Enterprise Architecture vision

  • Assists in the definition and implementation of technological governance activities (i.e. Standards and guidelines) to ensure that project teams adhere to industry best practices

  • Researches/monitors industry activities to keep abreast of relevant technologies and recommends technological direction to the Enterprise Architecture (EA) leadership team regarding the feasibility and applicability of such technologies within the Enterprise’s environment

  • Participates in the identification of technology opportunities for a broad, diverse and complex set of business functions and processes; recommends the capitalization of these technology opportunities to the EA leadership team

  • Researches emerging technologies and attends relevant professional courses/ conferences in order to maintain currency with the evolving skill set requirements that are driven by changes in technology

  • Develops and maintains strong working relationship with peers across the organization in order to create and market architectural products and services

Qualifications:

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Knowledge:

  • University degree/college diploma in a related discipline

  • 6 to 8 years’ of experience in the IT industry with a broader understanding of application development practices and IT Operations

  • General business knowledge and expertise in some aspects of technology

  • Solid knowledge of architecture concepts and practices

  • Solid knowledge of software development practices, application release and deployment and automated testing, including source code control, build / package, environment configuration and monitoring

  • Highly desirable but not mandatory:

  • Experience in Atlassian tool suite (Bamboo, JIRA, GIT) and open sourced-based automation tools (Ansible, Puppet, Docker, OpenStack)

  • Industry certifications on Agile Development, Java and/or Open Source

  • Possesses solid communication skills, both written and oral

  • Solid influencing skills to sell the architectural ideas and concepts to LOBs

  • Solid consulting and client management skills

  • Energetic; self-motivated; achievement and outcome-oriented
