Based in Burlington, ON Canada, L3 WESCAM designs, develops and produces state-of-the-art multi-spectral and multi-sensor Electro Optic and Infrared (EO/IR) imaging and targeting sensor systems that provide unparalleled Intelligence /Surveillance/ Reconnaissance (ISR) capability to Defense/Military, Homeland Security, airborne Law Enforcement and Search and Rescue. With over 3500 systems fielded worldwide, WESCAM products and systems can be found on over 135 platforms including fixed and rotary-wing, ground and marine as well as UAV and aerostat airborne platforms, numerous surface vehicles and marine-based platforms.

The Role

Reporting to the Operations Test Engineering Supervisor and working closely on a team of 7 talented individuals, the Electrical Test Automation Developer will be responsible for creating new test capabilities on exceptionally complex electronics equipment. Additionally, we are also looking for this role to help us to upgrade and transform some of our legacy test applications into more efficient and practical methods using more state-of-the-art tools.

Your expertise in designing and developing test automation code, ability to make practical connections with how some legacy apps were written and how our new test applications need to perform along with your deep problem solving skills will be the key to your success in this role. Specific Responsibilities

Our Test Automation Developers at L3 WESCAM undertake a series of varying responsibilities, depending on the range of priorities we are called upon to support. The primary responsibilities of this role will include:

  • Designing, developing and supporting functional and system test applications for both hardware and software to validate several production assemblies, sub-assemblies and systems

  • Creating and maintaining new custom test applications in C# and LabVIEW

  • Playing a key role in re-writing legacy test apps previously developed in Qt

  • Provides programming support for various electronics components interfaces and sub-assemblies using C/C , JavaScript, ASP.NET and SQL

  • Work closely with Operations, Production, and R&D on continuing to build new test capabilities for our New Product Introduction teams while consider new ways to improve existing (sustaining) test procedures and methods

  • Provide guidance and insight to the team on best practices on code maintenance, source code management as well as relevant/refreshed coding standards



    Qualifications and Experience

  • University Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering, or a Community College Diploma in Electronics Engineering Technology,

  • Between 1 and 5 years of relevant and recent experience with:

    o Designing and developing test automation code using LabVIEW, C, C#, SQL

    o Practical coding experience with C , JavaScript, ASP.NET,

    o Development of functional test and/or automation systems

    o Writing C/C DLL and a Microsoft .NET assembly to interface with test equipment

  • Strong working knowledge of standard communications protocols (i.e. RS232, RS422, USB, I2C, CAN Bus, Ethernet etc.)

  • Degree of familiarity with both analog and digital electronics

  • Experience in conducting root cause analysis, implementing corrective actions for production issues (both internally-driven as well as from outsourced assemblies)
