BMO Financial Group Senior Analyst, Data and Analytics in Ontario, Canada


The Senior Analyst is accountable to deliver on information management strategies by identifying, analyzing, generating, maintaining and reporting enterprise-wide information to supportBMO, T&O, and Procurement strategic initiatives. The Senior Analyst is a subject matter expert for business data assets (including critical data) and provides information, analysis, quantification, forecasting, and/or data visualization support to business partners and stakeholders within and across theEnterprisefor the purpose making high-quality, fact-based business decisions to drive better business outcomes.

The Senior Analyst is accountable to provide the Enterprise Sourcing & Productivity (ESP) Team with support in the development of Category and Supplier Strategies that identify opportunities to increase productivity. The role provides day to day reporting support to business partners and LOBs, partners and supportsESPcategory teams with spend and contract reporting and analysis, conducts ongoing and focused review of spend enrichment results, provides market research to support market assessments for sub-category strategies, and provides financial modeling expertise forESPprojects. This individual is also accountable to conduct supplier financial reviews.

Business Delivery & Operational Excellence

  • Identify, create, maintain and report on enterprise-wide supplier spend, contract and risk information

  • Provide reporting and data analysis support and conduct preliminary analysis of data to provide a starting point for opportunity identification and assessment in collaboration withESP(Enterprise Sourcing & Productivity) and LOB (line of business) colleagues

  • Support Procurement initiatives by providing analytical support from scoping of the project to participation in RPF pricing/quantitative components, defining opportunity baseline, research support, development of cost templates for supplier’s completion, pricing/service scenario analysis and recommendations, benefits calculation, and participation in the contract negotiations with respect to supplier reporting/data

  • Build framework and methodology for opportunity baseline and savings calculations

  • Work with Finance to understand baseline costs and validate opportunity benefits

  • Review supplier financial statements and evaluate overall supplier health (financial viability assessments)

  • Conduct ongoing spend enrichment to improve the accuracy and completeness of supplier spend data in the appropriate segments

  • Provide analytical and reporting subject matter expertise across the end-to-end source to pay process in support of theESPteam and business partner objectives

  • Actively expand understanding ofBMO’s business, proactively promoting ideas and suggestions regarding analytics, modeling, reporting and business intelligence

  • Act as a subject matter expert on Procurement data sources, systems and reporting options

Relationship Management

  • Liaise with Procurement,EnterpriseSourcing & Productivity, LOBs and other Bank stakeholders to understand needs and provide solutions

  • Work closely with other Technology & Data team members and strengthen our technology and data linkage

  • Collaborate with Procurement colleagues to create and leverage fact based analysis and participate in the creation of consumption reduction strategies

Governance, Risk Management, and Control

  • Act in accordance with Bank Policy

  • Ensure handling, storage and collection of data is compliant with Bank Policy (privacy, data governance etc.)

  • Maintain awareness and adherence to Regulatory & Compliance requirements

  • Ensure strict confidentiality is maintained for both customer and Bank information to protect the customer and

the Bank and to ensure compliance with Bank P&Ps

Change and Innovation

  • Identify new opportunities, introduce solutions for process redesign, automation

  • Proactively identify opportunities to enhance reporting to elevate insights for all stakeholders

  • Conduct needs based assessments, identify and document gaps, make recommendations

  • Take a lead role in process improvements and special projects, designing effective and sustainable solutions

  • Consult with team members to understand issues, share experience, brainstorm solutions and provide support

Training of various stakeholders in the bank to utilize self-serve features and grow adoption of Spotfire



  • University Degree/College diploma

  • 3 years of business experience (Sourcing and Procurement experience an asset)

  • Strong analytical aptitude around supplier spend/invoice analysis and reporting

  • Broad knowledge and understanding of visual analytics, KPI/KRI’s and executive dashboards

  • Background in financial and analytical modelling

  • Strong understanding of internal (e.g. Accounts Payable) and external (vendor supplied) data sources

  • Broad knowledgeand understanding ofBMOFG organization and interrelationships

  • Proficient experience with MS Office including Excel and PowerPoint


  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills

  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills

  • Strong time management and organization skills to manage multiple priorities skills

  • Strong technical knowledge in data mining, reporting tools

  • Strong attention to detail in large data sets;strong commitment to data accuracy and integrity

  • Ability to multi task in a fast paced environment

  • Technical and operational proficiency (Oracle, Ariba, MS Office, Financial/Accounting skills)

  • Working knowledge of Tibco Spotfire and/or data visualization capabilities
