BMO Financial Group Senior Functional Testing Analyst in Ontario, Canada


The Senior Functional Testing Quality Assurance Analyst (SFTQAA) is accountable to provide project planning, administration, and leadership in the testing of Information Technology (IT) products. These activities may include interacting and negotiating with other Development Groups and/or external entities. In addition, the SFTQAA may document and create test cases for highly complex functions and execute and verify those test cases as part of the overall functional testing of IT products. In performing this job, the SFTQAA follows the functional testing processes and procedures set out at the Enterprise and/or Development Group level. The SFTQAA provides input on the effectiveness and efficiency of these processes and procedures and, when appropriate, recommends improvement.


  • Participates in process improvement initiatives by providing feedback on deployed processes and helping with the piloting and training on software development methodologies in order to optimize those processes and methodologies

  • Writes new test packages and updates existing test packages (i.e., design, execution plan, and data preparation) in order to correctly guide subsequent testing activities

  • Moderates reviews or inspections of the project team to ensure the quality of work products

  • Executes and verifies the performance of medium to high complexity system functions in order to demonstrate the integrity of those functions

  • Creates supporting documentation and administrative reports (e.g., work orders and timesheets) to facilitate the proper monitoring and control of project progress

  • Reviews and interprets all documentation related to testing, including business requirements and functional and design specifications, in order to provide input to the project team regarding the planning of testing activities

  • Performs the following functional testing planning activities, for projects of medium to high complexity: test strategy (including Test Level Assessment), costing, budget, timeline, resourcing (in collaboration with the Resource Manager), scheduling, distribution of work, distribution of new and regression test packages, and sign-off, to ensure an effective and efficient testing approach

  • Chairs work order/exposure meetings and gathers information from the project team in order to prioritize and schedule the correction and delivery of defects found during testing

  • Records and reports statistical data relevant to the functional testing effort (e.g., work hours and rework) to the local Improvement Group in order to facilitate analysis of testing processes and other processes in the Software Development Life Cycle



  • Possesses a university degree/college diploma in applied technologies.

  • 3 years’ experience in Banking applications, preferably in SharePoint manual testing & QA environment.

  • Demonstrates sound knowledge of sharePoint testing ,and/ , outlook.

  • Possesses sound knowledge in areas of HPALM testing tracking tools &creating Test cases and matrix.

  • Demonstrate solid knowledge and experience in various testing & QA best practices and standards.

  • Experience with developing and conducting Automated Testing.

  • Experience with developing and conducting performance testing.


  • Possesses solid communication and interpersonal skills managing contractors.

  • Displays solid problem solving and analytical skills.

  • Illustrates solid customer service skills.

  • Demonstrates solid teamwork skills and able to work independently.

  • Is self-motivated, goal-oriented, customer-service oriented and able to manage change.
