BMO Financial Group Senior Manager, Corporate Planning in Ontario, Canada

Mandate:

The Senior Manager, Corporate Planning, is responsible for planning, forecasting and analysis of Corporate Services’ segment revenue including explaining variances to plan and conducting investigative P&L analysis. A key part of the role is managing partner relationships in the development of the financial plan, identifying and understanding key business drivers and sensitivities and connecting deviations to changes in business strategy. The Senior Manager must also consolidate total Corporate Segment results working with those responsible for credit losses, expenses and taxes to ensure a comprehensive P&L plan or forecast is delivered and understood.

Key Accountabilities:

Financial and Business Analysis

  • Develop the financial plan for Corporate Services’ revenue including assessing key assumptions, building financial models, and understanding trends and sensitivities.

  • Review the financial plan with Treasury stakeholders ensuring that the financial plan is consistent with the resource plan and business strategies.

  • Collaborate with partner groups to ensure that bank-wide allocations and methodology changes are allocated to the operating segments consistently.

  • Co-ordinate the consolidation of a full Corporate Segment P&L plan/forecast and working with key stakeholders ensure key messages and drivers are clearly understood and articulated.

  • Develop the stress scenario results for Corporate Services working with partners across the bank on scenario timelines, methodologies, and results.

  • Assist in the monthly or adhoc forecast update to ensure that changes in expectation are incorporated.

  • Assist in investigative P&L analysis:

  • Work with Treasury and Finance partners to synthesize complex P&L items into key drivers; and

  • Understand P&L trends and variances through investigation and financial modeling.

Managerial Leadership:

  • Establish a strong two way working relationship with Finance peers within your group to maintain highest quality governance, drive talent development and deliver on overall group finance objectives.

  • Optimize group finance performance through collaboration, communication, and clarity of accountabilities.

  • Work with Finance shared service teams for reporting, planning and forecasting requirements, setting appropriate context and driving continuous improvement.

Client and Relationship Management:

  • Build strong relationships with partner groups including Treasury, Canadian P&C, US P&C, Capital Markets, Wealth Management, and Corporate Finance Groups (e.g., Chief Accountants Group, Tax, Corporate Expenses).

Risk Management, Control, and Financial Governance

  • Ensure adherence to all aspects of First Principles, Our Code of Business Conduct and Ethics Corporate Policy, as well as all applicable legislation, regulatory rules and requirements, and Bank standards, P&Ps for such things as potential conflicts of interest, safeguarding of customer information, trading in securities, anti-money laundering, privacy and disclosure of outside business activities.

  • Follow security and safeguarding procedures and apply appropriate due diligence in accordance with Bank policy for the prevention of loss due to such things as fraud or defalcation.

Change and Innovation:

  • Support the operationalization of business/function change initiatives to ensure optimal effectiveness and efficiency from a finance perspective.

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in business, economics, accounting, engineering, or science/math discipline is required

  • 5 years’ experience in a Finance function in financial services.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present ideas to all levels in a clear, concise and compelling manner

  • Strong relationship management skills.

  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices, financial reporting, and financial analysis.

  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with senior management, team members and other internal/external colleagues

  • Demonstrated ability to work on problems/projects where the field analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of multiple factors

  • Flexible, adaptable and highly motivated with a curiosity and determination to ensure full understanding of information being analyzed and presented

  • Sound judgment and decisive with an ability to prioritize competing demand by applying practical and analytic approaches to problem solving

  • Professional team player who thrives in a dynamic environment

Qualifications:

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in business, economics, accounting, engineering, or science/math discipline is required

  • 7 years’ experience in a Finance function in financial services.

  • Working expertise in the Corporate Treasury space is advantageous

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present ideas to all levels in a clear, concise and compelling manner

  • Strong relationship management skills.

  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices, financial modeling, financial reporting, and financial analysis.

  • Advanced working knowledge of MS Excel

  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with senior management, team members and other internal/external colleagues

  • Demonstrated ability to work on problems/projects where the field analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of multiple factors

  • Flexible, adaptable and highly motivated with a curiosity and determination to ensure full understanding of information being analyzed and presented
