BMO Financial Group Senior Manager, Funds Transfer Pricing (FTP) in Ontario, Canada



This role is responsible for Funds Transfer Pricing (FTP) policies, processes, governance, analysis and methodologies. Responsibilities include ensuring that interest rate risk and liquidity risk is priced into products / businesses for appropriate price signaling and performance measurement, developing methodology proposals, communicating impact of changes to stakeholders, ensuring appropriate processes and governance is maintained, and conducting P&L and balance sheet analytics. A key part of this role is working with partners in Treasury, the Corporate Revenue team, business finance groups, and Chief Accountants Group on proposals, impact analysis, reporting, planning, and implementation. The senior manager must also lead and develop a team to accomplish the mandate and provide subject matter expertise to other stakeholders.

Key Accountabilities

Financial and Business Analysis

  • Drive overall financial governance and analytics of FTP rates and FTP financial results providing transparency and clarity on variances and trends by Group and Total Bank.

  • Manage the planning process for FTP P&L in Corporate and support the Operating Groups as it relates to FTP, communicating expected results and providing supporting analysis.

  • Interpret FTP for new products or changing product features and develop recommendations for improvements in FTP methodologies and processes that increase transparency and understanding across the Bank.

  • Act as FTP relationship manager for Senior Management/Executives, monitor relationship management with FTP stakeholders and provide subject matter expertise to drive increased understanding, improvement and transparency of FTP across the Bank.

  • Identify and proactively escalate issues on a timely basis to senior management for resolution.

  • Develop or review integrated ad hoc analysis and presentations to assist in achieving strategic/ operational objectives and in providing decision support.

Managerial Leadership

  • Manage and provide leadership to the FTP team to ensure objectives are delivered, resources appropriately allocated, inter-relationships understood and team feels supported and performs to a high standard.

  • Establish a strong two way working relationship with Finance peers within your group to maintain highest quality governance, drive talent development and deliver on overall group finance objectives.

  • Optimize group finance performance through collaboration, communication, and clarity of accountabilities.

  • Work with Finance shared service teams for reporting, planning and forecasting requirements, setting appropriate context and driving continuous improvement.

Client & Relationship Management

  • Build strong relationships with partner groups including Treasury, Canadian P&C, US P&C, Capital Markets, Wealth Management, and Corporate Finance Groups (e.g., Chief Accountants Group, Tax, Corporate Expenses).

Risk Management, Control, and Financial Governance

  • Ensure adherence to all aspects of First Principles, Our Code of Business Conduct and Ethics Corporate Policy, as well as all applicable legislation, regulatory rules and requirements, and Bank standards, P&Ps for such things as potential conflicts of interest, safeguarding of customer information, trading in securities, anti-money laundering, privacy and disclosure of outside business activities.

  • Follow security and safeguarding procedures and apply appropriate due diligence in accordance with Bank policy for the prevention of loss due to such things as fraud or defalcation.

  • Ensure all appropriate authorizations/ approvals are obtained in accordance with policies and controls.

Change & Innovation

  • Work with partners to understand disconnects / discrepancies in existing funds transfer pricing methodologies and propose and implement solutions.

  • Maintain an awareness of best practices to improve/ refine processes that may increase productivity and/or correct any deficiencies.

  • Support the operationalization of business/function change initiatives to ensure optimal effectiveness and efficiency from a finance perspective.

  • As a member of the team, collaborate with finance colleagues and lead/support changes


Knowledge and Skills

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in business, economics, accounting, engineering, or science/math discipline is required

  • 7 years’ experience in a Finance/Treasury function in financial services.

  • 3 years of direct expertise with Fund Transfer Pricing policies and governance

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present ideas to all levels in a clear, concise and compelling manner

  • Strong relationship management skills.

  • Strong people management skills (team will have 3 direct reports).

  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices, financial reporting, financial analysis and/or Asset Liability Management.

  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with senior management, team members and other internal/external colleagues

  • Demonstrated ability to work on problems/projects where the field analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of multiple factors

  • Flexible, adaptable and highly motivated with a curiosity and determination to ensure full understanding of information being analysed and presented

  • Sound judgment and decisive with an ability to prioritize competing demand by applying practical and analytic approaches to problem solving
