BMO Financial Group Senior Manager – Reporting and Analytics in Ontario, Canada



The Analytics and Reporting group is accountable for production and/or aggregation of the data underlying the Volcker Quantitative Metrics for Trading Products (namely Inventory Turnover, Inventory Aging and Customer Facing Trade Ratio) as well as ensuring quality control related to their calculation.

The group is also accountable for continuous improvement of the quantitative analytics and reporting process across Profit Attribution Analysis (PAA) and P&L group for the Capital Markets trading business. The group acts as a key escalation point for the P&L explanations and requires the applications of in-depth capital market product and P&L knowledge to ensure consistency and effectiveness of drilling down of the P&L drivers to support Capital Markets trading business.

The Manager will report to the Associate Director of the group.


A. Main Accountabilities

  • Assist with the implementation of Volcker Inventory metrics for Derivatives

  • Assist with the development of the risk adjusted notional methodology for Derivatives

  • Perform review and analysis on trading products system on how derivatives are booked and handled

  • Collaborate with Technology team and Data Governance team and develop innovative solution in the Volcker metrics implementation

  • Monitor the data quality of the existing Inventory metrics and investigate the issue to determine whether it represents a data, process or system error and, if so, take appropriate remediation actions.

  • Perform analysis on P&L, PAA and Pricing on all desks in Capital Markets Trading Business

  • Develop, design and implement report that provides daily P&L drivers in a manner that is easily understandable

  • Develop and implement continuous improvement and change initiatives within P&L and PAA team

  • Participate, as needed lead, projects/ task forces in support of major WBPO Line of Business and enterprise-wide initiatives.

  • Implement internal business partner initiatives, ensuring operating needs are fulfilled to meet requirements.

  • Foster an environment of continuous improvement and encourage the team to identify process improvements/ new ideas, and adopt best practices.



a) Knowledge:

  • MBA in Finance, Masters of Mathematical Finance, Financial Engineering, or equivalent degree

  • 3 to 6 years of related experience in trading support including P&L, valuation, trading product operations or trading system development and design

  • Solid knowledge of trading product systems and related financial engineering framework of derivatives, fixed income, equity and foreign exchange, and structured products

  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of key derivatives products

  • Strong proficiency with Excel, programming knowledge in VBA and SQL, and experience with database maintenance and navigation

b) Skills:

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills and ability to work with large quantities of data

  • Strong time management and task prioritization skills

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Desire to act as a change agent and hosts the ability to influence this change
