The Technical Specialist – Business Intelligence (TSBI) is a technical subject matter expert for one or more applications or platforms. The TSBI is accountable for providing technical guidance and specialized support for development and implementation of applications. This individual will, handle the creation of Extract Specification and Transformation Specifications Document.

Demonstrated knowledge of Enterprise DDW (Dynamic Data Warehousing), Data Structure and what it looks like, and Data Flow are skills required to be successful in this role.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Analyses business/technical problems for senior management (e.g., Technology Relationship Manager [TRM], Technology Head [TH] and Senior Business Technology Specialist [Senior BTS]), development teams, and business partners in order to identify the technical approach and solution options for the given problem; this includes collaborating with project teams to resolve technical road-blocks, performing solution proof-of-concept (POC), and examining third party product offerings

  • Provides application design, development and support costing estimates to senior management and/or project/work teams that are used in determining business initiative feasibility and priorities, and/or used by Technology and Operations (T&O) Project Managers for project planning

  • Reviews project documents (e.g., High Level Requirements Document [HLRD], High Level System Design Documents [HLSD], and application code) received from other TSs, BTSs, and Project Managers to ensure quality, completeness, and adherence to Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) documentation standards, as well as identifies synergies between project initiatives in order ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of the development process

  • Provides technical and application expertise to senior management and project teams, including the areas of governance methodologies and processes, for purposes of ensuring the architecture and applications are consistent with the design framework, Enterprise/industry standards, and the BMO strategic direction

  • Provides technical coaching to team members on design patterns, development processes, and application functions in order to improve their technical skills

  • Manages operational aspects of governance forums to ensure meeting productivity

  • Defines custom architecture requirements around third party solutions to allow IT integration of these solutions into the technology environment to meet business requirements

  • Presents solutions to internal governance groups in order to gain approval for the design and communicates the outcomes of these presentations to the project/work teams to keep them updated on the governance process

  • Reviews development and support processes and implements improvements to increase quality, reduce costs, and improve customer satisfaction

  • Conduct data profiling activities to analyze and understand data availability and behavior, in order to formulate a technical solution that will best address business requirements

  • Develop Source Extract Specification (Extract Specification, also known as Extract Agreement) detailing the required source file layout and rules for each data element, based on business requirements. This document is used by Source system to understand and validate extract requirements. This document is also used by QA in planning for data certification activities

  • Design and develop TSD (Transformation Specifications Document). This document details the logical solution and design for the business requirement(s) to be satisfied. The TSD is used by the Requirement Manager/Business Analyst to confirm requirement, and by ETL and QA for system development

  • Data Mapping from different source systems.

Qualifications:

Qualifications:

  • University degree and/or advanced degree in Computer Science or Engineering, or equivalent

  • 3-5 years systems experience in the IT industry

  • Solid business knowledge of Risk Mitigation, understanding of Information Security is an asset

  • Demonstrated expert understanding of Enterprise methodologies, such as ITIL / CMMI, SDLC, the best practices, and documentation standards

  • Track record of providing high level estimates and solutions architecture based on requirements

  • Expert technical skills and is able to learn and apply new skills quickly

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verba

MUST HAVE SKILLS

  • Deep knowledge of Data Structure & Data Flow

  • Data Warehouse Experience

  • SQL knowledge required for data investigations

  • DB2

  • Data mapping experience

  • Documentation skills: for SES, TSD, ETL Mapping

  • Advanced Communication skills: to be able to communicate, coordinate and support across various BMO areas

  • Basic Technical Skills: to able to work across multi technology disciplines

  • Expert learning: we have unknown tool that they will have to pick quickly and implement

  • Advanced Technology integration

  • Release coordination: agile overlapping deliveries
