SummaryThis is a 6 month contract position The Desktop Publisher is responsible for all aspects of document production including page layout, formatting and digital file preparation. The Desktop Publisher ensures products are published in accordance with CIHI’s graphic standards, internal procedures and established schedules.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesProduces document layouts in English and French using existing product templates in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and InDesign. Formats documents, spreadsheets and presentations in accordance with corporate styles, templates and brand standards.Creates and formats visual elements within documents such as graphics, figures and charts using Visio and Illustrator.Reviews formatted documents for accuracy and completeness. Verifies quality of work using the desktop/design checklist to ensure that quality standards are met. Accurately incorporates proofreader and client feedback into layouts.Produces final, web and print-ready PDF files including verifying that documents meet accessibility requirements.Establishes task priorities in conjunction with the Senior Coordinator. Negotiates, monitors and meets timelines.Escalates issues/concerns in a timely manner. Recommends corrective action and/or changes to improve work procedures, methods, processes and practices.Creates and maintains all working files and final file format(s) in digital and hard copy form in accordance with departmental procedures.Acts as a corporate resource for questions related to desktop publishing and use of corporate templates.Develops and maintains strong working relationships with clients and colleagues.Other related duties as required.
Knowledge & ExperienceCollege diploma in desktop publishing, graphic design, communications, advertising or in a related field.Three to four years of experience in advanced formatting and layout skills using Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Visio, or other desktop publishing platforms.Experience using Adobe InDesign and Illustrator.Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.Ability to multi-task and work under pressure with minimal supervision.Excellent interpersonal skills.Experience in graphic design and with AODA requirements is an asset.Bilingualism is an asset.
