Overview

Akamai is growing, and we need a Senior Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) who moves fast, is capable of breaking down and solving complex software testing problems, and has a strong will to get things done. SDET's at Akamai work with real world problems on a global scale, own their systems end-to-end and influence the quality and direction of our technology that impacts millions of people around the world. The day-to-day work encompasses tools and framework development, automated test development, continuous integration testing and end-to-end solution testing. The job requires a combination of strong technical and team skills. As a Senior Software Development Engineer in Test you will design and develop tools and frameworks for our next generation Image Management Solutions and also be responsible for:


* Ensuring quality of the product


  • Leading the test effort from planning and organization to execution and delivery


  • Developing effective test strategies through innovation in test

  • Using your knowledge of testing and testability to influence better software design, promote best engineering practices, bug prevention strategies, testability, and other quality attributes across products

  • Continuously seek effective and efficient test methodologies


About the Team


Our team is part of the Web Division, which has responsibility for the technologies that power our Content Delivery and Site Acceleration Products. These include Mobile Accelerator, Edge Computing, and Dynamic Site Accelerator. These systems improve the speed and reliability of web sites and applications running over various networking environments. By leveraging Akamai's global Internet deployment, we can uniquely solve technology problems and delivery unprecedented functionality beyond the limitations of base networking.

Qualifications


Required Education and Experience

Applicants must meet one of the following education and experience requirements:

  • 5 years of relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree or

  • 3 years of relevant experience and a Master’s degree or

  • Relevant experience and a PhD or

  • Equivalent professional Experience


Required Skills

  • 5+ years of automation development experience

  • 3+ years of experience with Java or an object-oriented language such as C++ or C#

  • 2+ years of experience with a scripting language such as Ruby, Bash, Perl etc.

  • 2+ years of experience working with Linux


Desired Skills

  • Ability to handle ambiguous/undefined problems and think abstractly

  • Ability to effectively articulate technical test challenges into automated test solutions

  • Experience with build to test automation and continuous integration

  • Experience with automated testing and test driven development
* Experience with Agile/Lean software development methodologies

  • Experience with HTTP and debugging HTTP traffic

  • Passionate about making the internet infrastructure faster and reliable

  • Prior experience contributing to a continuous delivery/cloud/SAAS project

  • Experience with image formats and image manipulation technologies
