Bring your leadership skills and your internal audit expertise to this Specialist position in Ottawa.
As an expert in internal audit and the IIA standards, you will be responsible for a Quality Assurance and Improvement Program Framework (QAIP) covering all aspects of internal audit activities, including risk-based audit planning, the ongoing maintenance and development of audit methodology, reporting and performance measures.
How You Will Be Contributing
Developing, maintaining and improving internal audit policies, procedures and methodologies and related tools to foster efficiencies and meet or exceed clients’ needs, industry leading practices and IIA standards.
Developing and implementing a structured process to research and monitor trends, guidance and emerging industry practices related to CMHC business and functional activities (IA portfolios) and Internal Audit practices on an ongoing basis.
Assessing compliance of Internal Audit engagement level activities with IIA standards and the QAIP by performing reviews of engagement working papers, identifying any significant departures from approved IA processes.
Engaging and supporting third party consultants to perform a full external assessment of the IA function on a 3 year cycle.
Promoting a strong risk culture, including IA’s role in the three lines of defence (3LOD) and CMHC’s internal control framework (ICF).
Providing expert advice to the IA senior management team on the strategic direction of the function. Developing the RBAP, including a summary discussion of the Audit Universe, strategic direction of the function and prioritization of projects.
Leading and coordinating the preparation of timely quarterly audit reports and the IA Annual Review to senior management and Audit Committee.
Developing methodology and approach to track and monitor on an ongoing basis budget requirements, budget utilization and IA performance measures.
Developing, monitoring and tracking progress on management action plans to address audit recommendations.
What We Are Looking For
A commitment to demonstrating CMHC values
Bachelor’s degree in Auditing, Accounting, Finance or Risk Management with a minimum five (5) years’ experience or an equivalent combination of related education and experience.
Recognized accounting or auditing designation (CPA, CA, CGA, CMA, CIA, CISA) is required.
Demonstrated consultation, issue resolution, and negotiation experience are critical in developing effective client relationships.
Demonstrated analytical skills with demonstrated ability to capture and synthesize information to develop strategic internal audit reports.
Track record of success managing a professional internal audit function, staffed with internal audit professionals operating within a complex environment.
Recognized as a leader in the internal audit professional community. Active within the internal audit community, participates in internal audit conferences and supports professional accreditation of audit staff.
Authoritative knowledge of the International Professional Practices Framework of the Institute of Internal Auditors and of internal audit leading practices in Canadian financial institutions.
In-depth knowledge and understanding of CMHC’s mandate, its business objectives, its policies, programs and products, its major interdependencies and its regulatory framework or in-depth knowledge of the workings of a large financial institution.
Sound knowledge of major business processes.
Superior written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels.
