Duties and Responsibilities:

Reporting directly to the Manager, Strategic Initiatives, the Communications Officer is responsible for the creation, implementation and evaluation of the Office-s strategic communications plan This includes internal communications, social media, print and web publications and special events projects designed to raise the level of awareness of the Office and the services it offers among key audiences to help improve student recruitment and retention. The incumbent is also responsible for assisting the VP with other communications efforts relevant to her role and that of the Office.

Qualifications:

The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:- Advanced communications skills  - Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills are required - Social media  - Superior interpersonal skills  - Proven ability to develop, implement and measure innovative communications, and marketing plans - A solid understanding of the University environment - Ability to interact successfully with all levels of administration and faculty  - Ability to work with minimal supervision  - Exceptional level of initiative and reliability - Proficiency in working with PowerPoint and Word - Web writing and design experience - Email marketing

Education and Experience:

The above is normally acquired through the completion of an honour-s degree in journalism, communications, marketing or English or a university degree and additional training in the field of public relations, marketing or communications. This is to be accompanied by five years of related work experience in marketing and communications, preferably in an academic setting.
