The Quality Safety Specialist will be responsible for ensuring that our application specific integrated circuit designed for sensor applications comply with ISO-26262 and related standards for safety. This position is required to work very closely with internal and external engineering teams, customers as well as suppliers to ensure functional safety requirements are met. The person is expected to have appropriate formal training, a strong analytical foundation and demonstrated capability to seek and secure relevant data and information from subject matter experts in ASIC design, embedded firmware, software, etc. Direct experience with ISO 26262 is strongly desired.

Position is located in Ottawa. Other locations will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Own and maintain Technical Safety Concept and related documentation

  • Review and assess customer requirements for relevant safety implications and feasibility

  • Own and maintain safety-related fault analyses across product design, firmware and embedded software. Required to conduct in-depth qualitative and quantitative Safety analysis: Fault tree analysis (FTA), Failure modes effect and diagnostic analysis (FMEDA), common cause failure analysis, etc.

  • Work closely with internal and external engineering teams, suppliers, and customers to ensure coordinated safety compliance from specifications to design to production.

  • Lead system safety design reviews, evaluations & recommendations with respect to ISO26262 and be the change champion for any safety related issues

  • Maintain and enhance Safety Manual along with Safety functional guide(s) to capture lessons learned and continuous improvement.

  • Deliver the System Safety Plans, Safety analysis, Verification and Validation plans along with reports in a timely manner; that is, at the appropriate development gateways to ensure designs are implemented in time for validation and production.

  • Responsible for the implementation of ISO26262 within automotive product lines.

  • Review Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment, Safety Goals and Functional Safety Concept.

  • Provide and present evidence and results of Functional safety analysis and level of compliance to ISO 26262 standard for supporting field performance.

Qualifications:

  • MS in System, Electrical, Automotive or Aerospace Engineering and 2+ years' relevant experience. Candidates with a BS and 3+ years relevant experience will also be considered.

  • Experience as functional safety engineer in safety critical applications with strong understanding of HW/SW development and functional lifecycle management.

  • ISO26262 working experience in qualifying systems with embedded HW and SW to ASCIL levels A, B, C & D products. Rigorous and extensive experience ins Development interface agreement; Safety concept; Safety requirement; Safety Manual; Failure modes effects & diagnostic analysis (FMEDA); Fault tree analysis (FTA) at system and subsystem level for safety-critical systems.

  • Functional Safety Certified Automotive Engineer (or equivalent) is a plus.

  • Equivalent experience in IEC61508 can also be considered for this role.
