Job Overview

Come and work at our Sarnia refinery, an operation that produces 85,000 barrels per day of gasoline, kerosene, jet and diesel fuels, asphalt and petrochemical feedstock. Reporting to our director, operations, you will lead a team of eight individuals, in an informal, technical capacity, and ensure safe and reliable day-to-day operations and plant compliance with the Operating Engineers regulations.

Key Accountabilities

  • Steward refinery energy and utilities production and usage

  • Oversee the safe operation of our refinery’s electrical distribution network and manage our operations’ electrical specialists

  • Ensure we are in compliance with annual renewals of operating engineer certificates

  • Improve operating procedures to improve the quality and use of operating procedures

  • Establish and enforce equipment never-to-exceed (NTE) limits

  • Report to, and fulfill requests made by, the Technical Safety Standards and Authority (TSSA) and its Chief Officer

  • Oversee operating plans and schedules for outage and major turnarounds that impact refinery utilities

  • Implement improvement plans to lower costs, improve safety, decrease energy usage, decrease chemical consumption and increase production

  • Prepare annual budgets and contribute to our long-range plan

  • Ensure personnel comply with laws, company policy and refinery rules, orders and procedures

Required Qualifications

Experience and Education:

  • 10 or more years of experience in an oil refining, chemical processing operation

  • Previous leadership experience is preferred

  • First Class Operating Engineer certificate, in good standing with the TSSA

  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)

  • Possess a valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of refinery operations

  • Strong knowledge of the Operating Engineer regulations

  • Demonstrated collaborative leadership working with operating personnel

  • Ability to balance multiple priorities on a time-sensitive basis

  • Assertiveness and strong decision making capacity

Working Conditions

  • This position has been identified as safety sensitive

  • You will manage a three million dollar operating budget and associated business controls
