The role of Business Centre Managing Lead (BCML) Saskatchewan, comes as a result of our commitment to further strengthen our leadership team in the growth areas of our business and contribute to achieve our Top 10 objective.

The role is accountable for creating, leading and executing a long term growth strategy and securing the competiveness of Stantec in the Energy, Resources and Infrastructure markets. This includes developing and maintaining the technical capability of the business and delivering the service standards demanded by our clients. Key to success is the long/short term planning and the management of resources together with a focus on optimizing Stantec’ s core business processes, introducing innovative ideas, and fostering operational excellence across the business center whilst maintaining a strong client focus - maximizing opportunities within the overall Stantec customer base.

Reporting to the Regional Leader Saskatchewan Region, and Business Leader Environmental Services - Western Canada, the scope of the role includes accountability for the attainment of the Business Centers management, financial and performance objectives, primarily for operations based out of the Saskatoon and Regina offices and with a headcount responsibility of 35 people. Primary services are consulting in the Environmental Services (Energy and Resources) sector.

You will lead a team that develops and delivers near term goals and targets while ensuring the long term sustainability of the Region through; the safe, cost efficient delivery of services and projects that meet client needs, optimizing work processes, ensuring financial and human resources are used to maximum business advantage. This position has primary profit/loss responsibility for the business Centre and bottom line accountability

Your Duties:

Business

  • Develop and execute changes in systems and processes for the business center within the framework of corporate policy, fully implementing governance systems, including the finance reporting processes, risk framework, delegations and HR systems and policies.

  • Oversee Stantec’ s financial accountability and controls; ensuring appropriate fiscal controls are in place to meet statutory compliance and integrity of data and statements as they relate to the business Center and established timelines; providing support to management team; holding management teams accountable for process

  • Leads the processes of review of operational performance against budget objectives and the strategy for the region. Identifying and analyzing information to give early warnings of potential problems and recommending corrective action.

  • Oversee preparation of monthly, quarterly and/or annual reporting as required.

  • Execute the project work from an operational, financial and resource standpoint within the business Centre.

  • Demonstrate commitment to health, safety, the environment and community at work and at home.

People

  • Plan, staff, and supervise all assigned work unit activities through direct reports to ensure a cohesive business Centre.

  • Coach direct reports on leadership skills as well as business performance issues.

  • Supervise multi-disciplinary teams within the business Centre.

  • Provide advice, guidance, and direction to direct reports and employees toward their professional development.

  • Manage in-house support staff and supporting consultants and vendors.

  • Lead, in conjunction with the business centre’s senior leadership team, scheduling and performance of annual employee performance reviews.

  • Contribute to the Stantec talent process and lead the deployment of Stantec’s retention policy in the Business. This includes scheduling regular review meetings.

Your Capabilities and Credentials:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, and/or related field required.

  • Minimum 10 years of combined management and environmental services work experience directly related to the Consulting Engineering Industry or equivalent.

  • Possess the following personal qualities: integrity, creativity, high standards, commitment, ethical values, and achievement oriented.

  • Must have a commitment to the vision and mission of Stantec and the Business Line at all times

  • Understanding financial reporting and ability to impact positive changes on AR, WIP, Utilization and Budget targets.

  • Excellent organizational, strategic, planning and implementing skills.

  • Committed to succession planning and staff development.

  • Able to build and maintain lasting relationships with corporate departments, key business partners, and clients.

  • Strong presentation, written, and verbal skills with ability to clearly convey information to a variety of audiences.

  • Can negotiate skillfully in challenging situations with both internal and external groups.

  • Proven skills to interact effectively with employees in order to direct work flow, assess performance and assign duties.

  • Able to create realistic schedules, set SMART objectives and meet deadlines.

  • Ability to assign and delegate work, problem solve, answer questions and evaluate results of performance.

  • Must be comfortable and competent in a range of venues when there is need to represent the organization as required.

  • Performs well under pressure.

  • Works effectively in an entrepreneurial, collaborative environment, and is able to direct and work in harmony with a diverse group of highly motivated and capable individuals.

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel.

  • Computer literacy, including effective working skills of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe products and able to quickly grasp internal business systems and tools.
