Job Description

The Director Proximity Sales is responsible to provide leadership to the teams involved in the execution of the strategic selling priorities that impact small retail customers, foodservice customers, and agent distributors. The mandate is to lead the development and implementation of strategies to improve the sales performance of these business teams. The role will work very closely with both Sales and Distribution teams in order to impact the required business results and change the culture.

  • Plan, manage and control the execution of sales strategies and activities with customers and agent distributors;

  • Manage the independent and non-affiliated customers in the retail and food service sectors;

  • Provide direct, and indirect, leadership to a field sales team primarily based in Ontario and Quebec;

  • Achieve the organization’s sales volume and profitability objectives for all product/customer categories;

  • Develop business relationships with customers and the key market decision makers/influencers;

  • Develop and implement selling programs for field sales and agent distributors that target certain market segments;

  • Organize the DSD / Sales team more effectively execute in the marketplace and organize the activities and tools of the distributors to support and growth revenue;

  • Lead the development and implementation of a product portfolio that meets the needs of independent clients and Agent Distributors;

  • Seek new market development opportunities both in terms of products and customers;

  • Develop and implement new programs to improve the selling expertise within the organization;

  • Review and approve commercial agreements for small surface independent clients;

  • Understand the needs of our customers and translate that into improved product portfolio (existing products, distributed products, or innovation);

  • Participate in industry related events and trade-shows.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, MBA, or equivalent;

  • 5+ years management experience with retail sales in a direct store delivery environment. Ideally includes experience in the food sector;

  • Excellent command of spoken and written French and English;

  • Strong leadership with customers, employees and peers;

  • Have demonstrated an approach driven on exceptional results;

  • Have strategic thinking that can be translated into an effective operational approach in dealing with the market and the internal execution;

  • Promote and participate in team building including succession development;

  • Excellent knowledge of the Canadian food industry;

  • Assertive with excellent communication, motivation and negotiation skills;

  • Ability to develop strong partnerships with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
