Position: Analyst, Financial Services

Site: Toronto General Hospital

Department: CBAR

Reports to: Senior Manager

Status: Temporary, Full Time (approx. 6 month with possibility of extension)


As an integral member of the Corporate Billing and Accounts Receivable department, this Financial Services Analyst role performs a range of analysis, billing and collection of Patient accounts requiring basic knowledge and fundamental applications of accounting theory and principles under the monitoring and direction of Manager, Corporate Billing and Accounts Receivable. Key responsibilities include:


  • Preferred accommodation insurance billing and collection through review of assigned accounts

  • Ensuring information is complete and accurate for billing and clearing billing deficiencies

  • May need to provide assistance or backup to staff obtaining completion of documentation which may require going to visit patient rooms or meet with patient family members

  • May require contacting patients and or insurance companies for collection of accounts

  • Backing up other billing activities as required, assisting with OHIP

  • Intermediate to Advanced excel preferred, may include daily census balancing activities

  • Experience in hospital billing environment preferred

  • Experience with hospital ADT systems and billing systems preferred

  • Excellent organizational skills and problem solving required

  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service and excellent communication skills required with patients, families, externally may include Ministry of Health and various insurance claims departments

  • Comfortable in a hospital environment and communicating directly and indirectly with patients and internal departments in various clinical areas

  • Other responsibilities as assigned


  • Completion of a 3 year community college program in Business Administration, or recognized equivalent required, enrollment in an accounting program preferred.

  • 2-3 years of practical and related experience.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel and Word) required

  • Experience with access and crystal reporting preferred

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • A commitment to client services and satisfaction.

  • Thorough understanding of OHIP qualification guidelines and MOH processes preferred.

  • Experience working in a health care environment preferred, experience with EPR preferred

  • Knowledge of another language an asset.
