Associate Category Manager

LOCATION

Head Office, Yonge and Dundas

PURPOSE OF JOB:

With his or her leadership abilities, sense of innovation and organization, an Associate Category Manager helps the Category Manager maximize sales and the categories of products margins for which they are responsible.

Take the initiative to become educated with respect to the Buying function and a specific category, and ensure full and complete knowledge base is acquired in all channels, including Direct (catalogue and internet) and Retail. Foster and develop long lasting relationships with vendors and be part of a winning team!

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participate in creating buying, pricing, assorting and merchandising strategies;

  • Participate in planning the supplying and replenishment of products based on required inventory levels and seasonal trends

  • Analyze different categories of products and elaborate on action plan

  • Participate in negotiation with suppliers in order to conclude deals for purchasing products, including creation, pricing, discounts and transportation

  • Participate in the annual budget process (sales, rotations, margins) and in normal activities, including open to buy

  • Support the Category Manager in business analysis and making decisions

  • Collaborate in product development

  • Be responsible for the quality of products bought by our agents

  • Ensure levels of inventory of advertised products are sufficient and correspond with the advertised date

  • Collaborate with the operation and visual merchandising departments in order to plan and maximize store space

  • Communicate on a regular basis with stores to answer questions and give them necessary directions

  • Ensure suppliers respect the policies and buying conditions of the company

  • Regularly visit stores and local competition

  • Verify advertising drafts

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

  • College diploma or University Degree

  • Minimum 2 years of experience, in (corporate) retail buying/category management

  • Experience in vendor relations

  • Good business sense, oriented towards results and developed analysis skills

  • Good management of priorities in a context of tight production deadlines

  • Attentive to detail

  • Good mathematical skills

  • Excellent knowledge of Excel and Word for Windows, including but not limited to, Vlookups and Pivot Tables.
