The Associate Director, Packaging Technology is responsible for supporting the development and driving the deployment of Apotex’s packaging strategy in support of the global supply strategy.
Drives the definition and execution of a global packaging strategy related to locations, technologies and design.
Provides technical leadership and direction to the design, selection implementation and lifecycle management of packaging solutions to meet the challenges of Rx and OTC products for existing and new markets and opportunities.
Provides detailed product specific inputs in the integration of packaging technologies into the development of new products.
Leads the selection of packaging options for novel market applications including OTC and specific territory or climatic requirements.
Collaborates closely and provides inputs with other functions in the outsourcing of technologies or capabilities from third parties necessary to meet product and market requirements.
Provides guidance and drive decisions in the sourcing of further packaging equipment capability and capacity.
Provides technical leadership on the approaches to secondary and tertiary packaging in response to specific market and regulatory requirements including support to the serialization program.
Guides the selection and implementation of inspection and control technologies necessary to ensure consistent quality of packaging output.
Provides technical expertise to Apotex approach to transport validation and choices of tertiary packaging configurations.
Demonstrates strong decision making skills, utilizing all available resources to correctly identify process and deficiencies and be proactive in implementing the proper resolution.
Deploys appropriate systems, processes, resources and services required to attain the goals and objectives of the department.

Can negotiate skilfully in tough situations and can settle differences quickly. Works to maintain trust and relationships between individuals and groups.
Has a good understanding of Canadian, US and EU regulatory guidelines.
Responds to complex queries from internal customers providing technical expertise relative to their area, and ensuring that advice provided is in compliance with SOD’s and external standards.
Always self-update and maintain high proficiency level of new technology, process and equipment within Manufacturing.
Works as a member of a team to achieve all outcomes.

Degree in Chemistry, Pharmaceutical technology, Engineering or related science.
Recognized qualification in Packaging Technology including materials, design and equipment.
Minimum five years’ experience in the pharmaceutical industry with a comprehensive understanding of the packaging requirements of complex markets.
Extensive knowledge and experience in pharmaceutical packaging processes and equipment.
Strong interpersonal and team skills.
Strong verbal and written English communication skills.
Excellent organization, troubleshooting and report writing skills.
Intermediate to advanced level of computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
Multi-tasking and project management skills.
Ability to work independently and make responsible and accountable decisions.
Thorough understanding and knowledge of Regulatory guidelines.
