Position: Cardiac Sonographer

Site: Toronto General Hospital

Department: Echo Lab

Reports to: Manager

Scale/Grade: B007

Hours: various hours & shifts as required MON - FRI 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Status: casual


The position presents an excellent opportunity to work in a fast paced environment using state of the art technology to perform echocardiograms on a uniquely complex patient population. You will perform ultrasound imaging procedures, as outlined in the procedure manuals to aid in patient diagnosis and/or treatment; operating, troubleshooting and ensuring ultrasound, echocardiology/ancillary equipment and instruments are performing in an efficient and effective manner; preparing written and electronic reports required to document all procedures and test results; performing other related patient handling responsibilities to facilitate the provision of optimal patient care; participating in teaching, educational, research, safety and quality improvement programs/activities; observing and understanding Hospital and departmental policies and procedures; adhering to Hospital and departmental mission and value statements while maintaining patient confidentiality; performing cross-functional responsibilities as assigned, or requested; performing other duties related to the job classification, as required.


  • Completion of a recognized post diploma Adult Echocardiology (A.E.) program

  • Completion of a recognized post diploma Cardiovascular Principles and Instrumentation (C.P.I.) program

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (B.C.L.S.), Level II Basic Rescuer Certification

  • Minimum of two (2) years recent cardiac ultrasound experience

  • Excellent problem recognition and problem solving skills

  • Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills

  • Excellent hand eye coordination

  • Ability to function effectively in stressful situations

  • Computer literacy required

  • Registration with Sonography Canada or the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS)
