Position: Compensation Specialist

Status: Temporary, Full Time (37.5 hours per week, 1 year assignment)
As an integral part of the Human Resources Department, the Compensation Specialist will be responsible for assisting in the development, implementation, communication and day-to-day administration of UHN compensation programs for both union and non-union employees.
Specific accountabilities include, but are not limited to:
Acting as a Subject Matter Expert for UHN for all aspects of compensation, including providing advice and guidance internally within the Human Resources department and, externally, to all levels of the organization in such areas as job design, job evaluation, internal equity and various salary administration-related policies.
Researching best practices, maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of applicable legislation and recommending and implementing policy changes, as required.
Providing consultation and issue resolution through the interpretation of UHN programs, policies, collective agreements and past practices.
Participating in projects involving the development and/or negotiation of compensation plans, pay equity plans, job and wage harmonization and related policies, etc.
Participating in the design, development and delivery training tools for stakeholders.
Participating in the research and development of new or the updating of current human resources policies, practices and procedures related to compensation.
Assisting in a variety of HR-related projects, as assigned.
Conducting and participating in various third-party and ad hoc compensation surveys to support the ongoing development and maintenance of corporate salary programs.
Researching economic indicators, compiling results, analyzing/interpreting data, and developing recommendations.(market analysis).
Participating in the development, maintenance and administration of the non-union Performance Management Program and Pay-for-Performance Program for both hospital and research staff, including examining the potential for incentive-based pay.
Participating in all aspects of job evaluation (both union and non-union), including providing advice and guidance to managers throughout the process.
Preparing and analyzing cost estimates for potential salary increases for various employee groups.
Conducting periodic audits of UHN's various union and non-union groups to ensure the ongoing maintenance of pay equity in compliance with legislation.
Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources Management or related discipline
Minimum three (3) years compensation-related experience
Healthcare sector experience, preferred
Excellent project management, analytical, research, organizational and problem-solving skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills to recommend solutions to complex compensation issues
Strong customer service orientation
Strong computer skills - expert Excel skills, proficient Word and PowerPoint skills and knowledge of HRIS applications
Demonstrated ability to be innovative and creative and to manage priorities
Proven ability to work well independently, as well as within a team environment
Previous experience working in a multi-union environment, preferred
