Job Summary:

Responsible for identifying and implementing business development strategies including product acquisitions, in-licensing, out-licensing, co-development, and outsourcing manufacturing with third parties that enhance Apotex’s overall growth and profitability and market positioning in the Global pharmaceutical market.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Review all business cases including rationale, financial analysis, and technical due diligence

  • Make authoritative recommendations and decisions with respect to product licenses and third party partners

  • Present all business cases and agreements to the Vice President for final review.

  • Develop strong working relationships and effective cross-functional processes with key stakeholders

  • Maintain awareness of industry and technology trends, assessing opportunities and potential competitive threats and advise the executive management team as appropriate

  • Conduct market research in order to identify, analyze and evaluate business opportunities and potential markets in new products, new market segments, strategic alliances and acquisitions that provide feasible opportunities for company growth

  • Attend Global industry meetings, trade shows, and events

  • Select, initiate, develop, and maintain highly effective and strategic collaborative partnerships globally with third party partner companies by continually seeking and evaluating personal contacts and developing a broad professional network

  • Initiate and bring to fruition high level global strategies, connecting corporate needs with product requirements as necessary to the benefit of Apotex as a whole

  • Coordinate the analysis of numerous opportunities simultaneously through several stages of financial and technical due diligence with appropriate experts from the company’s functional areas and/or consultants

  • Review and submission of plans and recommendations on relative attractiveness and fit of multiple opportunities to senior management

  • Act as primary negotiator on behalf of Apotex in business transaction and relationships with Global and domestic strategic business partners

  • Draft, structuring, negotiate and close agreements related to product acquisitions, product in-licensing, product out-licensing, product co-development, outsourcing R&D, outsourcing manufacturing, and contract manufacturing with third parties

  • Out-licensing and in-licensing of Intellectual Property

  • Terminate agreements and facilitate the receipt of damages as required in the event of supplier breach

  • Interact with existing partners to facilitate communications, keep track of milestones, authorize invoice payments, and identify opportunities to enhance or increase the mutual benefits of the relationship

  • Actively partner with the North American and Global Sales and Marketing functions in order to keep apprised of market information available from the sales force and communicate plans for new product introduction

  • Travel extensively on an Global basis in order to facilitate the acquisition of product licenses for Apotex global markets, and to represent Apotex as an ambassador to the business

  • Perform additional duties, as required

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum education of Bachelor’s degree in business/science or related field, advanced degree in relevant discipline preferred

  • 7+ years business development experience in pharmaceuticals, Global exposure desirable; minimum 10 years pharmaceutical experience

  • Broad knowledge in a number of pharmaceutical disciplines including sales & marketing, R&D, regulatory and medical affairs, quality assurance, manufacturing, finance, legal and intellectual property is desirable

  • Results-oriented team player who understands complexity and importance of working cross functionally to achieve organizational goals, capable of establishing instant credibility with all levels of the organization through excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills

  • Demonstrated leadership skills, organizational savvy, and ability to lead cross functional management teams

  • Experience with designing and managing work processes

  • Demonstrated success getting work done through others, and evaluating and deploying people accurately

  • Advanced negotiation skills

  • Advanced analytical and financial evaluation skills

  • Skills in project management and problem solving

  • Knowledge of various computer software packages and operating systems, including but not limited to MS Office

  • Experienced user of Excel, database applications and internet search engines;

  • Experience with IMS Dataview is desirable

  • Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail

  • Advanced interpersonal skills; ability to deal with people at different levels in the organization

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

  • Ability to work independently

  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast paced environment

  • Demonstrated initiative, self-motivation, planning and organizational skills

  • Willingness to travel Globally as required

  • Fluent in English, fluency in additional languages desirable
