Position: Disability Case Coordinator I

Site: Toronto General Hospital

Reports to: Manager, Occupational Health and Safety

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Status: Permanent, Full-Time

Utilizing specialized knowledge and experience to determine fitness to perform and accommodation needs as an integral member of the Occupational Health & Safety Department, the DISABILITY CASE COORDINATOR I works in coordination with Senior Disability Case Coordinators to employ the principles of disability management to actively manage and ensure all disabled employees are provided with appropriate job placements to effect early and safe return to work, reducing time loss and improving productivity. The principal responsibilities include: managing actively employees absent from the workplace, due to noncomplex illness or injury; managing the return to work process, advising management and union on appropriate job placement; remaining proactive to ensure the Hospital meets legislative requirements in the interest of a safe and healthy work environment; performing communication and administrative responsibilities; performing cross-functional duties, as assigned or requested; performing other duties consistent with the job classification, as assigned by the Manager Disability Case Management.

In addition this position will work with a team of health care professionals in the Occupational Health Clinics to provide services including first aid, injury assessment/referral to treatment and immunizations to hospital staff, as assigned by the Manager Occupational Health Clinics


  • 50% of the work will be Disability Management

  • Manages actively all absences due to non-complex illness or injury

  • Manages the non-complex return to work process, advising management and union on appropriate job placement

  • Remains proactive to ensure the Hospital meets legislative requirements in the interest of a safe and healthy work environment

  • Performs communication and administrative responsibilities such as maintaining concise records and confidentiality, maintaining and regularly reporting all-inclusive case activity and return to work statistics

  • Provides Occupational Health Clinic Services (50%)


  • Completion of or actively enrolled in attaining credentials in the field of Disability Management and/or Occupational Health and Safety

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in the field of Disability Management required

  • Membership with the Ontario Occupational Health Nurse Association preferred
