CLEAResult Energy Specialist in Toronto, Ontario


CLEAResult is seeking a Building Science Specialist (Energy Specialist), to join our program team in our Toronto, Ontario - Canada office. The candidate should have a passion for energy efficiency and conservation, combined with an Engineering degree. Working in the CLEAResult team, the Energy Specialist will be responsible for numerous tasks including reviewing, evaluating and analysing incentive applications for participants and channel partners in our utility clients’ service territories.


  • Conduct technical reviews of incentive applications to establish the reasonableness of energy savings being proposed.

  • Technical review areas include equipment specifications, confirmation of calculated savings, engineering assumptions, and revision of calculated savings as required to meet program requirements

  • Conduct follow-up with customers and trade allies, as required, obtaining the application documentation needed to complete project applications in a timely manner

  • Requires the ability to read and interpret technical documents such as equipment specifications, building/system prints, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals

  • Review of energy savings calculations for various technologies, including lighting, HVAC, air compressors, motors and drives etc.

  • Ability to understand how mechanical and electrical equipment and systems (Boilers, Chillers, VFDs, Controls, Pumps, etc.) work from experience/ on-the-job training / academic knowledge.

  • Develop expertise to be a technical lead for evaluating energy efficiency potential/savings in select technologies (e.g. air compressors, etc.)

  • Follow up with participants to address deficiencies in their proposed applications.

  • Help prepare a variety of reports to manage and monitor project progress.

  • Follow-up with individuals within various departments in the IESO, CLEAResult, utility client and participants to determine the status of contracts and other initiatives.

  • Identify bottlenecks in timely completion of tasks, work with individuals to develop solutions, report and escalate as required.

  • Ability to accurately summarize technical issues and facilitate the exchange of information to all appropriate team members.

  • Demonstrated ability to clearly and concisely explain observations and conclusions regarding technical issues to both technical and non-technical audiences using verbal and written means of communication.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to work well with all levels of management, staff and external contacts

  • Other tasks related to the achievement of CDM technical reviews and other CDM objectives as assigned from time to time.

  • Plan, coordinate, and follow through on tasks and assignments to complete in a timely manner

  • May be required to conduct customer site visits as required

  • Majority of travel, if any, (where occasional assistance may be provided at client’s premises) will consist of day trips within south-western Ontario. Candidate will work from our Toronto offices at 100 King Street West.


  • Engineering Degree

  • CEM, CET, PMP designation is preferred

  • Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to work well with all levels of management, staff and external contacts.

  • Project management experience preferred.

  • Very strong customer service orientation.

  • Familiarity with the saveONenergy program will be an added asset.

  • Knowledge of the Ontario Electricity Industry and / or knowledge of electrical energy conservation measures in manufacturing or building systems will be an asset.

  • Proficiency with MS Office (emphasis on Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and MS Project).
