The IT Support Specialist Position is pivotal in supporting the technology operations within TSL and as such this position is responsible for performing tasks including daily technology operations, Tier 2 POS support, tier 1 & 2 PC support and monitoring of the Windows servers for any errors in both software and hardware. The IT Support Specialist position is also responsible for monitoring the WAN and LAN and network printing operations.
Follow defined IT Support procedures and escalations.
Ensure daily, overnight, weekly and monthly check lists are followed as scheduled.
Assist in creating and maintaining documentation on current procedures, problem determination, backup and recovery processes for the store POS.
Recovery of Support Centre, store POS and lab systems in the event of hard drive failures or file corruptions. Process to be completed same day.
Provide escalation support for store issues
Provide PC support to the Support Centre and place hardware service calls when required.
Monitor and Resolution of Help Desk tickets.
Escalate software or service errors or halts to the appropriate vendor.
Set up new PC’s and move existing equipment as required.
Assist in the roll out of software or new equipment to the stores and Support Centre.
Test new software or services to better aid the end users.
Utilize task check lists to ensure consistency in their execution.
Assist in the asset management process by maintaining the resource database.
Unpack and check equipment returned from closed stores.
Implement ongoing maintenance and assist in the upkeep of the POS terminals, tablets, iPods, Support Centre laptops, desktops and related equipment.
Maintain daily contact with other IT team members, retail store associates and Support Centre users.
Participate in ongoing training for the IT Support team. This may include both internal and external courses as required.
Required Skills & Abilities:
Very strong knowledge of PC operating systems, Windows 7 and 8, MS office products, and MS Server various versions.
Strong knowledge of AD and Group policies.
Strong knowledge of networking, TCP/IP addressing.
Strong communication skills both telephone and written.
Strong problem solving skills. Must be able to work under pressure.
Must be a team player.
Strong organizational skills.
Helpdesk ticketing software knowledge (Spiceworks)
Working knowledge of MS System Center and Meraki Dashboard an asset.
2 - 3 years of server operations and IT support experience. Preferably in a Retail environment.
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office products and Windows operating systems.
Be able to work within an on call schedule.
Be able to work shifts as required, as part of a rotation within the team.
Some store visits required from time to time
Occasional lifting and or packing of printers and other computer or telephone equipment.
High level of exacting visual concentration (VDT).
Strengths in multitasking and organization skills.
Be able to accept direction from several sources (Users and Manager).
