Wage Schedule: $28.47-$28.95 PER HOUR

(Start rate: $28.47 per hour in accordance with collective agreement requirements).

Hours: 37.5 HOURS PER WEEK MON-FRI 0800-1600


As an integral member of the Plant Maintenance Department, the principal responsibilities of the LOCKSMITH, include: maintaining sole responsibility for installing the locking and keyless systems in the hospital, as per UHN confidentiality/security policies; adjusting/repairing/changing locks and keyless entry systems; ordering/maintaining supplies; cutting keys; performing cross-functional duties as assigned and/or required; performing other duties consistent with the job classification, as assigned and/or required.


  • At minimum completion of high school plus Apprenticeship Program or recognized equivalent

  • 1560 hours of on-the-job training and 8 weeks of technical training in class each year

  • TAOL membership (Association of Ontario Locksmiths)

  • IR Security and Safety

  • MEDECO certification

  • Understands verbal work orders and/or instructions

  • Reads and understands short notes, brief forms and/or instructions

  • Reads and understands material such as detailed forms, standard memos and/ore letters

  • Reads and understands material such as detailed operating and procedure manuals, case histories,

  • blueprints, diagrams etc.

  • Reads and understands material such as very specialized and technical manuals

  • Ability to calculate percentages, ratios and/or averages

  • Ability to calculate using complex mathematical formulas and/or equations

  • Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while

  • meeting deadlines in accordance to UHN standards.

  • Exercise initiative and good judgement with ability to multi-task.

  • Compliance with confidentiality requirements under UHN Privacy Policy.

  • Effective organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.

  • Knowledge of applicable legislative, UHN and/or departmental policies.

  • Client service oriented, with the ability to effectively work with diversity and appreciate that people with different opinions, backgrounds and characteristics bring richness to the challenge or situation at hand.

  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the job including: working in a difficult position, climbing up and down stairs, pushing/pulling carts, standing, crouching, kneeling, crawling, bending, stooping, climbing a ladder, reaching above the shoulders; ability to lift 11 kg to 20 kg.

  • May be required to work at multiple sites as well as rotating shifts
