As an integral member of the Radiation Medicine Program, the Manager, Radiation Therapy Strategic Operations provides exemplary leadership in the management of the Radiation Therapy department’s human and financial resources to facilitate personalized, precision medicine and the best experience for patients and their families. S/he develops, implements and manages short- and long-term plans which support and advance strategic priorities of the department, the Radiation Medicine Program, the Princess Margaret Cancer Center and the University Health Network. In addition to operational management, the Manager is accountable to ensuring that care requirements are met with appropriate competence and delivery, resolves patient care issues, problems and concerns. The Manager establishes, implements and evaluates the department’s continuous process initiatives to ensure that patients receive the best possible care. In alignment with organizational strategy, the Manager promotes the development of a motivated and cohesive team and supports learning and development to enhance staff knowledge with respect to professional practice, patient care and personal growth. In addition to initiating and participating in research activities directed towards improving clinical practice and treatment outcomes, the manager integrates evidence based practice into clinical programs and promotes knowledge dissemination for local, national and global impact. The manager also performs cross-functional and/or other duties consistent with the job classification, as assigned or requested.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintains staffing levels and provides oversight for employee training and development; communicates job expectations; coaches, mentors and disciplines staff; oversees new employee orientation and provides ongoing career development planning and opportunities.

  • Maintains employee work schedules including assignments, job rotation, training and absences.

  • Establishes, implements and evaluates short and long-term strategic priorities and continuous process improvement initiatives in alignment with department needs and / or RMP and UHN strategic direction.

  • Provides oversight and direction to employees in the Radiation Therapy Department while empowering employees to take responsibility for their jobs and goals; delegates responsibility and expects accountability and regular feedback.

  • Fosters a spirit of teamwork and unity among department members that allows for disagreement over ideas, conflict and expeditious conflict resolution, and the appreciation of diversity as well as cohesiveness, supportiveness, and working effectively together to enable each employee and the department to succeed.

  • Consciously creates a workplace culture that is aligned with RMP and UHN mission, vision, guiding principles, and values; creates and maintains an open and non-judgmental work environment that encourages employees to try new approaches to enhance their performance; maintains transparent communication and appropriately communicates organization information through regular interpersonal communication, meetings and appropriate electronic formats.

  • Leads employees using a performance management and development process that provides an overall context and framework to encourage employee contribution and includes recognition, goal setting, feedback, and performance development planning.

  • Provides effective performance feedback through employee recognition, rewards, and disciplinary action, with the assistance of Human Resources, when necessary.

  • Develops the departmental annual operating budget for the utilization of resources in collaboration with site program leadership; approves expenditures within signing authority limits; monitors, analyzes and reconciles variances from approved plan and analyzes financial and statistical reports on a regular basis to monitor performance and takes action to attain budgeted targets.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Completion of a recognized Radiation Therapy program

  • Completion of a master’s degree in health care management /administration or related health care discipline

  • Membership with the CAMRT

  • Registration with the CMRTO

  • Current knowledge of technical advances in Radiation Therapy

  • Current knowledge of regulatory legislation relative to Radiation Therapy

  • Seven (7) years Radiation Therapy experience

  • Two (2) years or more of supervisory \ leadership experience

  • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, organization design and development

  • Demonstrated experience in leading and coordinating high performing teams

  • Success in developing, managing, and leveraging both traditional best practices in leading people and/ projects and fostering innovation

  • Demonstrated successful project and change management experience

  • Demonstrates in-depth understanding of labor relations practice and demonstrated ability to foster positive labour relations

  • Track record of effective collaboration beyond profession and program to address issues that impact the quality of the patient experience

  • Transformational leadership, critical thinking abilities and clinical scholarship

  • Highly-evolved verbal and written communication skills

  • Excellent analytical, strategic conceptual thinking, strategic planning and execution skills
