Purpose of the Job
Partnering with Divisional Merchants and Buyers you are responsible for developing strategic line plans that maximize financial performance. Develop class/line-level seasonal plans and estimates for sales, gross profit, inventory, receipts and open to-buy, consistent with corporate timing and cadence. Ensure open-to-buy is consistently communicated with Merchandising partners, and ensure on orders/receipts do not exceed approved open-to-buy. Conduct in-season and post season performance analysis to cross-functional business teams. Provide class/line level recommendations on markdowns and initial mark up (IMU). Ensure timely, rigorous and proactive analyses are applied to assortment decisions.
Manage Inventory Planning team, ensuring all buy plans for all planning areas and financial plans are appropriately linked at all levels of product hierarchy.
Develop class/line-level seasonal plans and estimates (for all selling channels) for sales, gross profit, inventory, receipts and open-to-buy, consistent with corporate timing and cadence. Conduct historical analyses to support these seasonal plans/estimates, including analyses of sell-through, markdowns, vendor performance, etc., and analytically surface patterns as future performance indicators. Work with Financial Analysts (and others involved in corporate planning) to ensure financial goals are translated into class/line level plans. Maintain all class/line level plans and estimates in corporate tools.
Develop, manage and communicate dynamic open-to-buy at the class/line level. Integrate Merchandising initiatives (e.g. inter-channel transfers of inventory, re-list of prior season merchandise, markdown initiatives, etc.) into open-to-buy estimates. Constantly communicate open-to-buy with Divisional Merchants and Buyers, ensuring they are clear on open-to-buy levels prior to their placing orders. Ensure merchandise on order/receipts do not exceed approved open-to-buy levels.
Conduct monthly in-season business reviews with cross-functional buying team. Systemically analyze underlying drivers of performance and recap key profitability metrics, as compared to plan, estimate or prior year. Make recommendations on how to apply learnings to future periods. Develop and present meeting materials for executive review.
Conduct detailed post-season review, minimum twice per year (spring and fall seasons) with cross-functional buying team. Systemically analyze underlying drivers of performance and recap key profitability metrics, as compared to plan, estimate or prior year. Make recommendations on how to apply learnings to future seasons. Develop and present meeting materials for executive review.
Support Merchandising teams with unit planning and other store planning activities (e.g. plannogramming or rack planning). Work with others in Merchandising as new processes and/or tools are developed.
Provide high-level IMU recommendations for lines/classes in scope of responsibility. Provide these recommendations regularly to Buying teams, and others as required.
Provide regular and ad hoc reporting to partners in Merchandising.
Provide leadership and direction to staff reporting, including participating in resource planning, recruitment, performance management, attendance management, etc. Create a team environment for all associates through establishing clear accountabilities and authorities where associates are held accountable for achieving results. Communicate and coach/guide team members on business decisions.
Drive the execution of the current business plan/forecast by working closely with and influencing cross functional partners such as replenishment, finance and store operations including the identification of opportunities to improve process and implement standardized solutions across their own business unit or across multiple business units.
